ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Baseball closed out the 2025 regular season with a sweep over rival Southwestern Oklahoma State. The Rangers used a six-run seventh inning to spark a 7-3 comeback win in game one before a four-run first inning sparked an 8-4 victory in game two of the afternoon. Before the doubleheader the Rangers honored the team seniors for the final home games of the season.
Northwestern finishes the regular season with a 30-20 record overall and a 17-16 conference record. This marks two consecutive 30-win seasons for Ranger baseball since the 2002 & 2003 seasons, and the third time in program history.
GAME ONE:
Connor Green led the team with three hits, two runs scored, and an RBI in the game. Seven Rangers each had an RBI in the game.
Elias Herrera earned the win after six innings, allowing one run in the game. Kaden Spray pitched three innings in the game, striking out two.
In the first inning, the Rangers had two base runners after picking up a single and a walk, but were not able to score.
Southwestern was the first to score in the game after a leadoff double by Jeffers came around to score on an RBI single by Foufoulas for the 1-0 game. The Bulldogs then extended the lead in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly as the Rangers trailed 2-0.
The Rangers trailed 2-0 before a big seventh inning as Trevor Saire led off the inning with a single through the right side, followed by a Chase Gordon walk. This led to an RBI single by Connor Green scoring Saire before a Chad Green single back up the middle to tie the game at 2-2. Hagen Barcello followed with an RBI single, scoring Connor Green,giving the Rangers their first lead of the game.
Colby Grace followed, keeping the runs going with a sacrifice fly, scoring Paul Sache, extending the lead to 4-2. Harley Shaffer singled through the right side for the 5-2 Ranger lead before Saire, for the second time in the inning, singled this time driving in a run for the 6-2 lead after a six-run seventh inning.
The eighth inning the Rangers extended the lead after back to back hits by the Green brothers before an RBI groundout by Paul Sachen pushed the Rangers in front 7-2.
Southwestern was able to get one run back in the ninth inning before a ground out sealed the game, one victory over Southwestern and the series victory for the Rangers.
GAME TWO:
In the second game the offense was led by Hagen Barcello, Chad Green, and Connor Green all driving in two runs in the win. Chad Green and Paul Sachen led the team with two hits. Chad Green and Trevor Saire led with two runs scored.
Kyle Holzer earned the win, throwing 4.1 innings before Colby Mitchel and Jacob Shaw closed out the win.
A perfect first inning for Holzer helped lead to a big bottom of the first inning for the Rangers, striking for four early runs. A Zach Vetal leadoff single, followed by a Paul Sachen double, led to a 2-RBI single by Connor Green. He was followed by a Chad Green two-run home run for the 4-0 Ranger lead.
Northwestern added a fifth run in the second inning after a Saire leadoff single, advancing to third on the error and later scoring on a ground out.
Southwestern struck for their first run of the game after two singles, leading to a sacrifice fly to left field.
Chad Green singled to right field to start the third inning before a stolen base, leading to an RBI groundout by Barcello for the 6-1 lead.
Northwestern added in the fourth inning after a leadoff double by Shaffer led to an RBI single by Paul Sachen as the Rangers extended the lead to 7-1.
The two teams traded runs in the fifth inning after Southwestern added a run in the fifth inning, before an RBI double by Barcello scored Gavin Mendoza for the 8-2 lead for the Rangers.
Southwestern scored two runs in the seventh inning before Jacob Shaw closed out the win with a strikeout to seal the series sweep over the Bulldogs.
The Rangers will return to action on Thursday to start the Great American Conference tournament for the first round after clinching the seventh seed with the two Saturday wins.
