ALVA, OKLAHOMA - Northwestern Oklahoma State Softball opened the three game series with Oklahoma Baptist Sunday afternoon. The Bison scored four in the second inning to take a 5-1 lead before closing out the win over the Rangers to win 14-5.
The loss drops the Rangers to 9-26 overall as Oklahoma Baptist improves to 22-15.
Kirby Van Haren led the offense with three hits in the game. While Macy Spearman led the team with a 2-RBI afternoon.
Oklahoma Baptist struck first in the opening inning after Greene reached on an error before an RBI double to left field pushed across the game's first run for the early 1-0 lead.
The Rangers quickly answered back in the bottom of the inning after a Muns single to start the inning led to a Rachel Sherwood sacrifice fly for the tie game at 1-1.
Oklahoma Baptist had a four run fourth inning after a Ranger error led to an RBI triple. This was followed by a walk and an RBI single for the 3-1 Bison lead. The Bison tacked on two more runs in the inning on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single for the 5-1 lead through two innings of play.Â
The game stayed that way into the fourth inning before a lead off double followed by back to back walks led to a 2-RBI single to left field for the 7-1 Bison lead. Northwestern got one run back in the fourth inning after a single and a double put two runners on base before Rosemary Rivera came in to score, cutting the deficit to 7-2.Â
Oklahoma Baptist got the run back in the fifth inning scoring one run to make it 8-2 before a six run sixth inning pushed their lead to double digits. A walk and single led to a Ranger error scoring one run before an RBI double and single made it 12-2. The Bison led 14-2 after the top half of the sixth inning.
The Rangers loaded the bases in the sixth inning after a single by Esterly, Van Haren leading to a Macy Spearman 2-RBI single. She was followed by an RBI double to left field as the Rangers trailed 14-5, before Oklahoma Baptist closed out the six inning win.Â
Northwestern will close the series with a Monday afternoon doubleheader against Oklahoma Baptist starting with first pitch scheduled for noon against the Bison.
