Lady Ranger Rally Falls Short in Magnolia

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The No. 19 Northwestern Oklahoma State women's basketball team fell to Southern Arkansas, 58-51, on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops Northwestern to 13-3 on the season and 8-2 in Great American Conference play.

The Lady Rangers got off to a slow start, as the Muleriders opened the game on an 8-0 run in the first two minutes. Summya Adigun quickly responded with five quick points to bring the game back within one possession, but Southern Arkansas went on an 8-2 stretch to extend its lead back up to eight midway through the opening quarter. The Lady Rangers continued to claw back, as Adigun and Catyn Graham knocked down three-pointers to end the quarter down 18-15.

The second quarter started with another slow start for the Lady Rangers, as Southern Arkansas went on a 11-3 run to move the lead back up to nine with 1:52 remaining in the first half. Conley Cayot rattled in a jumper with one minute left to make the score 29-22 heading into the locker room.

Northwestern hammered away inside the start the second half, as Kira Bass scored inside on a layup to cut the deficit down to four with 8:02 remaining in the third quarter. The Muleriders once again extended their lead back up to eight, but the Lady Rangers closed out the quarter on a 7-0 run to trail by one point at the end of the quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Cayot attacked inside to keep Northwestern within a point, while Adigun made a free throw with eight minutes left to tie the game at 39. The Muleriders answered with a 9-0 run over the next two minutes, and the Lady Rangers could not rally again, as they fell to Southern Arkansas, 58-51.

Cayot led the Lady Rangers in scoring with 13 points, while Bass led in rebounds and assists with 11 boards and three assists to pick up her sixth double-double of the season.

The Lady Rangers will be back in action on Jan. 22nd, as they take on Southwestern Oklahoma State University inside Percefull Fieldhouse at 5:30 p.m.
