Rangers Drop Doubleheader at Colorado Christian

Lakewood, Colo. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon against Colorado Christian.

Game 1

The Rangers started off the game with a bang, as Alex Dabrowski launched a ball to right field to put Northwestern up 1-0, but gave up two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Ranger offense stayed hot in the second inning with Jailon Goodfellow singling, advancing to second base on a wild pitch, and moving to third on a single from Joel Lindahl. Cole Barton brought Goodfellow home with a double down the right field line to tie the game, 2-2. Chase Gordon and Amari Goodfellow drew back-to-back walks to give the Rangers the lead heading into the bottom of the second.

The Rangers shut down the Cougars in the second and third innings, but they scored four runs in the fourth off a two RBI double and a two-run home run to lead 6-3 midway through the game. The Rangers plated one back on a single from Jailon Goodfellow, but Colorado Christian responded with four more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 10-4 lead and tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth. Jailon Goodfellow added to his day in the seventh inning by scoring two more runs with a double to left center field as the Rangers fell, 11-6.

Jailon Goodfellow led the Rangers in RBI and hits with three each.

Game 2

The Ranger offense quickly got into a groove, as Dabrowski singled and stole second base to start the game followed by Amari Goodfellow singling to centerfield to put the Rangers ahead, 1-0. Amari Goodfellow created more havoc on the base paths by stealing second, and Jailon Goodfellow singled to right field to put Northwestern up 2-0. Colorado Christian responded with a run of its own in the bottom of the first inning before scoring three more off a home run in the second to lead 4-2 heading into the third inning. The Cougars tacked on another run in the bottom of the third, but Tyler Hogan crushed a ball to right field to bring the Ranger deficit back down to two.

Colorado Christian answered with three more runs in the fifth inning to expand the lead to 8-3, but the Rangers tried to rally in the top of the seventh, as Barton reached on a fielder's choice before Dabrowski hit his second home run of the day to bring the Rangers within three. The Ranger rally ended up falling short, and Colorado Christian won game two of the doubleheader, 8-5.
Dabrowski led the Rangers in hits and RBI with three hits and two RBI.

The Rangers will finish out the series against the Cougars on Sunday at 1 p.m.
