Lady Ranger Comeback Falls Short Against Ouachita Baptist

ALVA, Okla. – The No. 15 Northwestern Oklahoma State women's basketball team fell to Ouachita Baptist, 68-64, on Thursday evening. The loss snaps a nine-game winning streak for the Lady Rangers and moves their record to 11-2 on the season and 6-1 in Great American Conference play.

The Lady Rangers and Tigers battled for momentum throughout the opening quarter, but neither team could pull away. Ouachita went on a 7-0 run midway through the quarter to take a 9-5 lead, but Northwestern immediately responded with a Kennedy Hight three-pointer to break the run. Hight knocked down another three and made two pairs of free throws to finish with 10 of Northwestern's 14 points in the first quarter.

Early in the second quarter, Summya Adigun and Madison Denison scored on back-to-back possessions to give the Lady Rangers a 19-17 lead with 6:35 remaining in the first half. From that point on, Ouachita outscored Northwestern 16-4 to lead 33-23 at halftime.

The Tiger lead continued to grow in the second half, as Ouachita led by 17 before the Lady Rangers went on a massive 15-1 run to cut the deficit all the way down to three points behind big baskets from Conley Cayot, Adigun, and Hight.

Northwestern continued to rally in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers continued to counter and extended their lead back to 12 with 4:17 to go. The Lady Rangers made one final push, as Kira Bass led the charge by scoring eight of the next 10 points for Northwestern during a 10-1 run to make it a 3-point game with 16 seconds to go. Despite the late surge, the Lady Rangers could not complete the comeback, and fell to the Tigers, 68-64.

Bass led the Lady Rangers in scoring with 18 points, while Cayot led in rebounds and assists with eight boards and four assists.

The Lady Rangers will be back in action on Jan. 10 against Henderson State University at Percefull Fieldhouse at 1 p.m.
