ALVA, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State baseball team fell to Rogers State, 12-2, on Tuesday afternoon.
The game started off as a pitcher's duel, with Rogers State scoring the first runs of the game in the top of the third inning. Northwestern answered back in the bottom of the inning, as
Amari Goodfellow blasted the ball over the left field wall to get the Rangers on the scoreboard. The Rangers tried to rally in the bottom of the fourth with singles from
Joel Lindahl and
Matthew Bailey to get a runner in scoring position, but could not bring them home.
Rogers State responded with another run in the top of the fifth to extend their lead back to three runs, 4-1. The Rangers once again threatened in the fifth, as
Alex Dabrowski singled to third base and
Amari Goodfellow slapped a single to the shortstop to move Dabrowski to third, but once again could not bring a runner home. Northwestern cut the deficit to two in the bottom of the sixth on a solo shot from Bailey, with
Jailon Goodfellow keeping the rally going by slamming a single to left field. The Hillcats tacked on eight runs in the eighth inning to get a 12-2 win over the Rangers.
Lindahl led the Rangers in hits with three, while Bailey and
Amari Goodfellow led in RBI with one each.
The Rangers will be back in action on March 13, as they travel to Magnolia, Arkansas to take on Southern Arkansas University in a doubleheader, with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
