MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State baseball team fell to Southern Arkansas, 13-3, on Saturday.
The Rangers got out to a quick start, as
Alex Dabrowski drew a leadoff walk, followed by back-to-back singles from
Blake Mattern and
Matthew Bailey to bring Dabrowski home to give the Rangers the early 1-0 lead.
Cole Barton drove in another run, as he got on base via a fielder's choice, which sent Mattern home to put Northwestern up 2-0 going into the bottom of the first.
Southern Arkansas answered back with seven runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead, and the Rangers chipped away at the lead with a single from
Jason McCarty, walks by Dabrowski and Mattern, and a single to right field from Bailey to cut the deficit down to four. The Muleriders added six more runs over the fifth and sixth innings to expand their lead to 13-3, and the Ranger rally fell short, giving Southern Arkansas the win.
Bailey,
Joel Lindahl, and McCarty all led in hits with two, while Bailey recorded two RBI.
The Rangers will be back in action on March 17, when they take on Oklahoma Panhandle State University at Myers Stadium at 2 p.m.
