ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State baseball team fell to Henderson State, 5-4, in 10 innings on Friday.
The game started off as a pitchers' duel, as the Rangers and Reddies did not score in the first three innings. Northwestern broke the tie in the top of the fourth, as
Blake Mattern started the inning with a home run to right field to put the Rangers up, 1-0.
Henderson State plated a run in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 1-1, but the Rangers responded in the seventh with
Joel Lindahl singling to left field,
Matthew Bailey drawing a walk, and
Jason McCarty ripping a single to right field to put a runner in scoring position.
Brody Harris loaded the bases with a walk, and
Alex Dabrowski drove two runs home with a single to center field to put Northwestern back on top, 3-1.
The Reddies tacked on two runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at 3-3, but the Rangers retook the lead in the 10
th, as Dabrowski lasered a triple down the left field line to give the Rangers an opportunity to snatch the lead back.
Chase Gordon brought Dabrowski home on a sacrifice bunt to give Northwestern a 4-3 lead, but Henderson State hit a two-run home run to get the win in extra innings, 5-4.
Dabrowski and Mattern led the Rangers in hits with two each, while Dabrowski led in RBI with two.
The Rangers will be back in action tomorrow, as they finish the series against the Reddies with a doubleheader starting at noon.
