LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State women's soccer team defeated New Mexico Highlands, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon. The victory moves the Rangers to 4-1-1 on the season.
The Rangers started off aggressive on offense, as they created multiple scoring opportunities and recorded the first five shots of the game in the opening 20 minutes. After withstanding several shots from the Cowgirls,
Jenna Mills broke the tie in the 41
st minute with a goal to put Northwestern up 1-0.
In the second half, the Rangers picked up right where they left off, with
Jazelle Alvarado ripping a shot into the net to give Northwestern a 2-0 advantage in the 50
th minute. The Ranger defense locked down New Mexico Highlands for the rest of the game, with
Taylor Annen getting three saves in her second shutout victory of the season, 2-0.
Northwestern tied with the Cowgirls in total shots, 12-12, but the Rangers had a 6-3 differential for shots on goal.
Cambell Tabor led the Rangers in shots with four, and led in shots on goal with two.
The Rangers will be back in action for the Great American Conference opener on Sept. 16, when they host Southern Nazarene at the Alva Recreation Complex at 6 p.m.
