KEARNEY, Neb. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State volleyball team finished the UNK Fall Classic with a three set win over Hastings College on Saturday afternoon.
Northwestern came out strong in the opening set, building an early lead and staying in control throughout. Tess de Zanet and
Andrea Djordjevic helped lead the Rangers offensively as Northwestern stretched its advantage to 20-10. The Rangers continued to push late, getting kills from
Kemelly Baez Miecznikoski, de Zanet and
Kaylah Thomas to close out the set. Northwestern took the opener 25-15 to grab a 1-0 match lead.
Northwestern battled through a close second set with Hastings before creating some separation midway through.
Ivanny Blackwood and Tess de Zanet helped lead the Rangers as Northwestern built a 20-15 advantage. Hastings fought back late, but Northwestern held on behind strong play at the net from
Kemelly Baez Miecznikoski and de Zanet. A final kill from de Zanet gave the Rangers the 25-22 win and a 2-0 match lead.
Northwestern jumped out to an nearly lead in the third set and stayed in control throughout. Tess de Zanet and
Andrea Djordjevic helped the Rangers build a 15-8 advantage before back-to-back service aces from de Zanet pushed the lead even further. Hastings tried to battle back late, but Northwestern kept the pressure on. De Zanet added two late kills before the Rangers closed out the set 25-19, completing the 3-0 sweep.
The Rangers will take the court again on Tuesday September 15, when they travel to Bethany to take on Southern Nazarene.
