Andrew Stewart is entering his third year as a coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State University as a Wide Receiver's coach.
For the third straight season, Stewart's receiving core improved and progressed as they received 18 touchdowns and a total of 2,044 yards. For the second straight year, Horatio Smith was the focal point of the group and wound up being a 2nd team All-GACÂ player. He finished the season with five touchdowns and 596 yards. Da'Shawn Gordon was the other receiver with a 500+ yard season.
Stewart's group continued their development during his second year in Alva and made a name for themselves as among the conference's best. Sophomore Horatio Smith built off of his solid freshman campaign and earned Second Team All-GAC honors at the season's end. During the 2016 season, seven different Ranger wideouts grabbed touchdown catches with Smith leading the way with nine trips to the end zone.Â
In Stewart's first season on the staff, his receiving core embraced the newly implemented high octane passing attack that head coach Matt Walter installed in his first year at the helm. In the first season in the new offense, junior receiver Arte' Miura Jr. flourished in the new system and netted 44 receptions for 505 yards and eight touchdowns. Stewart's first recruiting class that same season featured Northwestern Oklahoma State's Freshman Athlete of the Year in Horatio Smith, who tied the school record with four receiving touchdowns in a match-up against Southern Nazarene.
Prior to arriving at Northwestern in the Fall of 2015, Stewart coached the Wide Receivers at St. John's School in Houston in the 2014 season and was also an assistant for the baseball team in the Spring of 2015.
While on staff at St. John's, he had the opportunity to coach the 7th grade team whom he led to an undefeated season.
Stewart attended Texas Lutheran University for two years where he saw action at quarterback for the Bulldogs. Stewart then chose to transfer to the University of Houston where he attended the school for two years from 2008-2010. He transferred into the school originally as a quarterback but made the switch to slot receiver during his time there.
While a member of the University of Houston football program he was a part of the 2008 team that won the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas against the United States Air Force Academy. The win was the first bowl victory in twenty years for the University of Houston as well.
Stewart is a Katy, Texas native where he attended Mayde Creek High School, playing both football and baseball and was an all-district honorable mention as a member of the baseball team.
