2020 HALL OF FAME LUNCHEON APPROACHES

ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State University and Ranger Athletics is preparing to host the 2020 Northwestern Sports Hall of Fame luncheon on January 18 at 11:00 a.m.

Ramon Byndom, Steve Gale, Dana Gandolfo Mitrovic and M.L. 'Mel' Sharp will be the 28th class honored as Hall of Famers at the University.

Byndom hails from Oklahoma City, Okla.; he was a member of the 1998-2000 Rangers basketball teams. He was a force on the court that was able to score anyway he pleased. Byndom ended his career with 1,378 points, which currently ranked seventh all-time in Northwestern basketball. he also holds the records for the most field goals made in a season with 276 and the most shot attempts with 668. He was a team captain for the Rangers, First Team All-Red River Athletic Conference twice, NAIA Player of the Week, RRAC MVP and in 2000, he was named Second Team NAIA All-American.

Gale is from Purcell, Okla., and he was a member of the Rangers football team from 1978-83. Gale was named to the All-OIC first team and first-team District 9 as a junior. He was the Rangers Football Team Captain as a senior. Gale joined the coaching staff after graduating becoming the Offensive Coordinator during 1985-1990. He has 35 years of service in public education as a distinguished coach and administrator.

Gandolfo Mitrovic, a native of Vancouver, Canada, is the Rangers softball lone All-American. She received the accolade after a stellar senior season in 2009. Mitrovic's most outstanding records include having the all-time single-season batting average of .432. She posted a .750 slugging percentage, had 111 bases and only struck out four times in 148 at-bats. Mitrovic was named First Team All-Sooner Athletic Conference Outfielder for two consecutive seasons, First Team All-Region, NAIA Player of the week and a First Team All-American.

Sharp out of Dacoma, Okla., holds the record for the most free throws in a game at 19 for Northwestern basketball. Sharp carried the title of "set shot artist" throughout his career as a Ranger as a high scorer for his team. As well as being tough and determined, there were very few games when Sharp had less than four fouls or completely fouled out…a true sign of hustle. He was made co-captain his senior year. Sharp made Second Team All-Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference in 1953.

The annual Hall of Fame ceremony will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2019, during halftime of the Northwestern men's basketball game against Oklahoma Baptist.

Before the induction ceremony, a luncheon will begin at 11:00 a.m. inside the Student Center Ballroom. Tipoff for the basketball games are scheduled for 1 p.m. for the women's contest against OKBU, immediately followed by the men's game in which the inductees will be honored.
