ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State played a similar game in the first half of the contest, but second half adjustments by the Tigers propelled them to a 41-10 victory.
A key stat in the game was penalty yardage as each team racked up huge amounts for a combined total of 26 penalties for 289 yards.
Northwestern was doomed by the whistle today, committing 15 of their own penalties for 190 yards.
The home team wasn't able to get much going offensively on the day amassing 252 total yards while giving up 449 to the guests.
OBU gashed the Ranger rush defense for 325 yards, but the Rangers snuffed out the passing game well, only allowing 124 yards through the air.
Five different Rangers caught passes on the afternoon with Tamarick Courtney hauling in four catches for 36 yards while Jeson Jeantry and Jarion Tudman also went for 30 plus yards.
Alex Hemberger was a bright spot for Northwestern today as he was in on 12 total tackles, seven solo and five assisted. David Boatright was also huge for the Ranger defense, recording nine of his own.
Northwestern started off the game by winning the toss, but went down 3-0 after the Tiger's opening drive.
Ouachita executed a methodical 69 yard drive in 12 plays that took just over five minutes off the clock, ending up in a field goal to take an early lead.
Northwestern went three and out on their first two possessions of the game, leading to two consecutive punts.
The second punt by Will Hawkins was fielded at Northwestern's own 48 yard line and was returned by Etauj Allen to the house, making it 10-0.
The punt return ended up being the final scoring drive of the first quarter of play.
A 10 play, 56 yard drive for Ouachita Baptist resulted in three more points as the Tigers took a 13-0 lead with 13:46 left in the half.
The young Northwestern squad wasn't to be outdone however going on a big 10 play drive of their own to make it a 13-7 game with just under nine minutes to go in the first 30 minutes of play.
Northwestern was able to get on the board once again with the field goal converted by Will Hawkins, his first of the season to bring the Rangers ever closer to 13-10.
One more touchdown by the Tigers happened before the end of the second quarter, ending the half 20-10 in the visitors favor.
Ouachita Baptist didn't wait long to get on the board, scoring right out of the gate, and put seven more on the board after an 82 yard punt return by Etauj Allen, his second of the day.
The Tigers scored one more time in the game in the fourth quarter, putting the Rangers down by a 31-point margin.
Northwestern (1-5, 1-5 GAC) will return to action next weekend, Saturday, Oct. 18 against in-state foe, East Central for homecoming.
