Rangers Take Loss on Homecoming 66-7

ALVA, Okla. – It was a beautiful day on homecoming Saturday with the 1999 National Champion team in attendance, but it unfortunately ended in a loss for Northwestern Oklahoma State who took the loss 66-7 against East Central.

The National Champion team was honored before the start of the game, with it being the 15th anniversary of their great championship.

Northwestern's defense showed up early and held the visitors to two drives without points, and only gave up a field goal after a nine play drive, making it 3-0 to start, following in the '99 team's footsteps.

A blocked punt by the tiger defense changed the momentum however, ending up in a score on the very next Ranger drive when Cole Weber took the Lexus Jackson block to the house for the score, taking the lead 10-0. The score turned out to be the last of the quarter.

Two plays into the second quarter, the Tigers found the board again to take a 17-0 lead over the black-and-red.

Devouris Means had an exceptional game and continued it after an interception in the second quarter, which led to a Northwestern score five plays later.

Reid Miller took his team the rest of the 11 yards to get on the board against their in-state foe making it 17-7.

East Central put one more score on the board before the half making it 24-7, but the second half is what ultimately doomed the Rangers.

The Tigers scored on three straight drives to open up the second half, putting the visitors up 45-7.

Northwestern allowed three more scores in the fourth to end up on the losing end bringing their record to 1-6 on the season, as well as the Great American Conference.

The Rangers will take the field again next Saturday when they will travel to Southeastern Oklahoma State at 2 p.m.
