Volleyball Falls to Rival Southwestern in GAC Tournament, 3-1

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Northwestern Oklahoma State Volleyball was defeated by arch rival Southwestern Oklahoma State in the first round of the GAC Tournament by a final score of 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 18-25, and 21-25).


Individual Leaders
  • Natalie Fahey led the Rangers in total kills with 15 in the match. Nora To'omalatai finished the contest with 11 kills also.
  • Asia Pipkin aided the defensive effort with 14 digs and 10 contributed kills of her own as well.
  • Fahey added four total blocks on the Northwestern defensive side of the net during the match-up.
  • Kaydee Yukawa would lead the black-and-red in total assists on the day with 29.
     
Game Changer
  • Northwestern came out firing in set number one as the black-and-red controlled the momentum the entire set. While the Bulldogs were able to tie up the score on multiple accounts, the Rangers never trailed in the opening set as they claimed it over SWOSU 25-22.
  • The black-and-red continued their strong play early on in the second set as they opened up the scoring to an 8-2 lead over Southwestern. The Bulldogs however were able to string multiple runs together and ultimately take set number two, 25-21. SWOSU continued to use that momentum to power themsevles past Northwestern in the third set and win it by a score of 25-18.
  • Set number four was just as close as the previous three, with each team fighting their way towards the set victory. The Rangers were able to hold a small lead early on in the set but a 10-3 run propelled the Bulldogs out to a 16-11 lead. Dispute being able to tie the contest up at 20-20, Northwestern could not complete the set win as SWOSU claimed the fourth set and the match at 25-21.


News & Notes
  • This marked the very first clinched post-season play (NCAA Division II Era) contest in not only the history of Northwestern Volleyball but in the history of Northwestern Athletics as a whole since becoming eligible through the National Collegiate Athletic Association in September of this year.
