RUSSELLVILLE , Ark. - Northwestern Oklahoma State Women's Basketball was defeated 81-35 by Arkansas Tech in the final game of the first Arkansas road trip of the season.

The Fast Break

Northwestern returned to the hardwood on Saturday afternoon in Russellville, Ark. to take on the Golden Suns of Arkansas Tech University. Tech entered the contest ranked 25th in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Pres-season Poll.

The game tipped-off and the Golden Suns got started quickly with a deep three. The Rangers answered with a jump shot from Jonae Issac, which would be the only points Northwestern could score in the quarter. The Rangers struggled with Arkansas Tech's strong post game, getting outrebounded 15-4 in the quarter.

Northwestern responded after a tough first quarter by coming out and hitting a nice lay-up by McKenzie Billy just 17 seconds after the inbound. Following back to back lay-ups from Arkansas Tech, Kori Barrios hit a deep three which seemed to light a spark amongst the Rangers. An offensive rebound led to a put-back shot for the Golden Suns slowing the Rangers momentum momentarily, but a Jaylan Robinson jump shot at the 6:50 mark brought the score to 28-9 in favor of the Golden Suns. The momentum was slowed down once again with multiple Golden Sun put backs following offensive rebounds. Tech continued to give the Rangers fits in the paint and finished off the first half on a 14-4 run to take a 44-18 lead into the half.

Both teams came out of the half-time break with intensity on the defensive side of the ball as just six points were scored between the two teams in the first six minutes of the quarter. The Rangers continued their improved defensive play all the way through the third quarter as they held the Golden Suns to just 35.7 percent shooting from the floor in the quarter. However, the Arkansas Tech lead was still 58-25 through three quarters.

Freshman Shilah Young hit two free throws to score the first points of the fourth quarter. The Golden Suns ended the contest with an 11-6 run to close out the Rangers, 81-35.
The Rangers were paced by Robinson, who led the way with 10 points. Three Golden Sun players finished in double digits on the score sheet.
