SEARCY, Ark. – Multi-point runs in each set for Harding allowed the Bison to defeat the streaking Rangers by a score of 3-0 (15-25, 20-25, 22-25) in the Ranger's second consecutive away match.
The Rangers first loss in 12 matches was without grit, as the Rangers (16-6, 6-2 GAC) showed the ability to consistently play with the traditionally strong Lady Bison (18-3, 7-1 GAC) squad, but multiple large runs throughout each set ultimately proved to be the downfall for the Rangers in the match.
A seven point run at the 10-9 mark gave Harding a 16-10 lead during the midway point of the first set of action. That key run of points propelled the Lady Bison ahead of the Rangers and they never looked back, taking the first set, 25-15.
Despite dropping the final two sets, the Rangers would prove to be a difficult out in both of the final two games. Tied at 15-15 midway through the second set, another run of points put Harding ahead 21-15.Two more Harding kills looked like it was a sure deal, but three points in favor of the Black-and-Red made it interesting going down the stretch before Harding eventually closed it out, 25-20.
Northwestern continued to fight and held a 17-15 lead in the third set, but another long run of Harding points put the home squad back ahead 21-17 and made it difficult for the Rangers to overtake the lead, eventually dropping the final set, 25-22.
Junior
Hannah Williams led the way with eight kills, one block, and four digs. Senior
Carley Geer played tough all game on the back line of defense, leading the squad with 19 digs. Northwestern hit .107 as a team, while Harding posted a .322 team average.
Jennifer Eubanks and
Brooklynn Hesson also made contributions to the Ranger offense, posting seven kills apiece. Freshman
Lauren Symington made her presence felt as well, totaling five kills to continue to provide offensive support to Williams, Hesson and Eubanks.
The Rangers will make the trip to Russellville, Ark. to complete their road trip against No. 16 Arkansas Tech, who will look to defend their undefeated 22-0 record against the Rangers tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.
