Pankake Scores Game Winner on Penalty Kick, Rangers Win in 2OT

ALVA, Okla. – In their third double-overtime game of the season, the Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers came away with a 4-3 victory over Oklahoma Christian University. Sophomore Hollie Pankake scored the game winner 2:51 into the second overtime period on a penalty kick to give Northwestern back to back wins for the first time this season.

With an explosive season-high 30 shot performance, the black-and-red picked up goals from four different scorers Tuesday evening at the Alva Rec Complex.

Coming off their first victory of the season Saturday against Harding, Northwestern had visible confidence right out of the gate. After the Eagles opened the scoring in the 12th minute, a determined Rangers squad came charging.

Midfielder Calvonis Prentice continued her hot streak in this one as the 5'6" junior out of Hemet, Calif. scored her third goal in her last two contests in the 19th minute. Prentice rifled one off the crossbar from the left side that just crossed the goal line on its way down to tie the game 1-1.

Gomez led the Rangers with six shots, giving her a team-leading 23 shots on the season.

Things looked as if they were headed downhill when Oklahoma Christian scored back-to-back goals just five minutes apart, giving the Eagles a 3-2 lead with 30 minutes to play.

But the Rangers buckled down defensively, giving themselves opportunities to move the ball up field.

With less than seven minutes to play in regulation, Bailey Jarvis scored a crucial game-tying goal to send it to overtime. The midfielder from Owasso, Okla. had five shots including four on target. Northwestern controlled the first overtime as they managed six shots on Eagles goalkeeper Addison Milner, but nothing was solved.

Headed into the sudden death second overtime, the Rangers saw an opportunity to pick up their second win and ran with it.

Three minutes into the final frame, one of the Oklahoma Christian defenders committed a foul inside the box leading to a penalty kick. With the game on the line, Pankake fooled Milner with a head fake and then fired it past her to give the Rangers a 4-3 walk off win.

Kylee Loustaunau and Elia Garcia split time in goal for head coach Craig Liddell. Garcia took over for Loustaunau in the second half before Loustaunau returned to play both overtime periods.
