Weevils Too Much for Rangers in Twinbill

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State baseball team took the road for their second straight road series this weekend, heading to Monticello, Ark. to take on the Weevils of Arkansas-Monticello. The Rangers would come away with two losses on the day, 9-0 and 6-1.

It was originally slated for one game this afternoon, but due to weather expected to arrive tomorrow, the doubleheader was played today.

Unfortunately for the two games combined, the Rangers were only able to collect eight hits, four in each contest. Pat Delano was the leader at the dish for the Black-and-Red as he was 3-for-6 on the day and would be the only Ranger to have a multi-hit day.

Game 1

Starting on the hill for the Rangers in the first of the twinbill was freshman Sean Rydell who went five full innings, surrendering five runs in the outing.

Coming in relief for Rydell were relievers, Collin Fouts, Blake Jones and Baron Phillips.

Delano was stellar at the plate in the first contest, going 2-for-3, but he was unfortunately unable to score.

Rydell started off in some trouble in the bottom half of the first two innings of play, but would pitch his way out of the jams he found himself in.

Northwestern would get two men on board in the top of the second, but would come up empty in the inning, which would be a common theme in the game.

The first two open frames for the Weevils wouldn't last long as they put up four runs in the third on two straight singles, plating four runs in the process, making it 4-0 before the inning was ended.

As the visitors continued to struggle at the plate, Monticello would continue to pour it on, scoring five more runs in the bottom of the eighth to make it 9-0, which is where the score would remain.

Game 2

The game two start on the bump for Northwestern was Bryce Tomlin who was responsible for six runs on seven hits in the outing. Tomlin threw four full innings before giving way to Nick Llorente who recorded two innings of work.

Four different batters were able to get on board for the Rangers, including Delano, Nathan Kane, Cooper Stanley and Daschal Johnson, all collecting one hit.

Early in the game, the Rangers had a hard time getting anything going as the first three innings were empty for the visitors, while the Weevils were able to plate two runs in the process.

UAM didn't stop there as they had a big inning in the fifth, as they crossed home plate three times to make it a 6-0 game.

The Black-and-Red did score a run in the top of six however on a Jacob Long sacrifice fly to centerfield, scoring Casey Dickerman from third, making it 6-1.

That would indeed turn out to be the final score, with the Rangers ending the day with two losses.
