LADY RANGERS TOP THE TIGERS

Alva, OKLA. - Northwestern Oklahoma State University volleyball recorded their first Great American Conference win Saturday afternoon, defeating the Tigers of East Central University (0-15, 0-2 GAC) in three straights sets [25-17,25-14,25-19].

Northwestern started out on hot right out the gate as they controlled the lead going up 16-7 in the first set. The black-and-red raked up 16 kills and hit a .273 clip while coasting to a win in the first set against the Tigers, as the Lady Rangers took set one 25-17.

To go along with their stellar defensive play in the second set, the Lady Rangers hit a match high in the second set, hitting .371. Brooklynn Hesson and Hannah Williams headlined the second set, as they posted four kills each. Williams would also have a team high with 15 digs.

The Tigers would not be able to make any runs against the Lady Rangers, as they extended their lead by as much as 11, taking set two 25-14.

In the final set to determine the winner of the match, the East Central and Northwestern battled right up until the halfway-point of the set. Here the black-and-red would go on a 7-2 run, which gave the ladies some separation and momentum to finish out the sweep of the Tigers 25-19.

Sophomore setter Kaitlyn Robinson led the team with 20 assists. Brooklynn Hesson led the team in kills with 10 and freshman Claire Hodges made her presence known with 8 kills of her own.

Northwestern Oklahoma State University will host Southern Nazarene University Crimson Storm (8-8, 2-1 GAC), Tuesday, September 18 at 7 p.m. in Percefull Fieldhouse who are also just coming off a win themselves.
