NORTHWESTERN FALL IN CLOSE MATCH WITH SOUTHEASTERN

Alva, OKLA. - Northwestern Oklahoma State University volleyball battled hard Friday night in Durant, OK., but could not pull off the win against Southeastern Oklahoma University (6-11,2-3 GAC) losing in the fifth set [18-25, 25-11, 19-25, 25-17, 9-15].

In the first set the Lady Rangers fell behind the Savage Storm early, after an 0-8 run to start the set, the Storm controlled the lead the whole set. Savage Storm ran away with set one winning 18-25. Going into the second set, Northwestern look like a whole different team and came out with a vengeance 14-7.

Northwestern hit at a .346 percentage and held Southeastern to a minimal .029 hitting percentage. The black-and-red took care of business in the second set, holding the Savage Storm to 11 points and running off with the set and tie up the match.

In the third set the Lady Rangers and the Savage Storm battled this set, but the Savage Storm had control of the lead most of the set; however, with a late 7-point run from the black-and-red to get within three points. Senior Hannah Williams posted seven kills, yet it was not enough to win the set as Northwestern falls in set three, 19-25.

Northwestern posted another dominating set in the fourth, which led to a 2-2 tie in the match. In the fourth set, the Savage Storm had eight attack errors that helped the Lady Rangers gain a slight advantage and guide them to a smooth set win, 25-17.

Going into the final set of the match, the Lady Rangers were not able to cap off a win, as Southeastern hit a .500 clip giving them the edge in the fifth set as, Northwestern fell 9-15.

Copperas Cove native, Jennifer Eubanks had a team high 16 kills in the match and Hannah Williams followed up with 15 of her own. Sophomore setter, Kaitlyn Robinson chipped in 28 assists as well.

Northwestern Oklahoma State University will travel to Lubbock, Texas to play Lubbock Christian University (8-6) at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
