Rangers Take Two in as Many Days

ALVA, Okla.- Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers continued their stellar play at home with another Great American Conference win against Arkansas-Monticello, which pushed the Black-and-Red to a great 14-7 season record, and 5-2 in GAC play. This match dropped Arkansas-Monticello's record to 5-13, and 2-5 in conference play. The match was fairly dominated by Northwestern except for the second set but took the match 3-1 [25-17, 22-25, 25-16, 25-22].

The Rangers dominated on the offensive side 17 kills alone coming from junior Kaydee Honeycutt. Honeycutt had an amazing performance with a hit percentage of .289 and 12 digs. Jennifer Eubanks was not far behind with 11 kills, a hit percentage of .250, and 5 total blocks. Kaitlyn Robinson led the team with 41 assists, while Sydnee Miller led the team with 15 digs.

The Rangers continued to thrive on their home court in Percefull Fieldhouse. Head Coach Fred Aubuchon often gives credit to the atmosphere of the gym that backs the players as an important part of why they are undefeated at home.

The first set of the evening continued the way the Rangers had left off from the win Friday evening as they dominated the set. Arkansas-Monticello came out screaming at the very beginning, but the Northwestern quickly put it to a stop. Back-to-back-to-back kills from Eubanks was all the Black-and-Red needed to take the momentum and never let go. A final slam by Honeycutt allowed the Rangers to take the first set 25-17.

The Cotton Blossoms refused to roll over. Both teams traded points through out the match with seven ties and seven lead change through out the set. Arkansas-Monticello took a 19-16 lead, but an important timeout taken by Coach Aubuchon allowed the Rangers to come flying back. Unfortunately, it was not enough as UAM snatched the second set 25-22.

Northwestern did not want to repeat the second set and headed into the third with a vengeance. An 8-1 run from the Black-and-Red gave the Rangers some critical momentum. Tough serving allowed Northwestern to take advantage of UAM errors while keeping their defense off balance. An important attack from Alexi Beach gave the Black-and-Red their final push and they grabbed the third set 25-16.

The Rangers started out hot with four straight points to start the fourth set with kills from Kiauna Clark and Kate Deterding. The Cotton Blossoms stayed just close enough to cause some worry until Northwestern pulled away led by some tough serving from Tarra Parks. From there the Black-and-Red controlled the game. A final kill by Beach gave the Rangers their final point of the match, as they took the fourth set 25-22.

The Rangers will be headed for an out-of-conference match-up against Cameron University Tuesday evening. The first serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. Oct. 15.
