Northwestern Continues Home Win Streak Against Ouachita Baptist

ALVA, Okla.– Northwestern Oklahoma State University Rangers volleyball earned their seventh win in Percefull Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon as they took on Great American Conference foe Ouachita Baptist. A four-set battle took place with another tight game. The Rangers were able to pull out the win [25-23, 29-27, 23-25, 25-17].

Northwestern's record improved to 18-9 overall with a GAC record of 8-3, while Henderson's record fell to 15-11 with a 6-5 conference record. The Black-and-Red now sits alone at third in the GAC standings. The Rangers out-hit the Tigers 61 to 52 (kills) as well as out-blocked with 14 to their 11. There were 32 ties and lead changes throughout the match.

Four different Rangers earned double-digit kills as Kaydee Honeycutt led the way with 17 kills as well as 21 digs. Kiauna Clark continues to stun with 15 kills and 7 blocks. Kate Deterding and Jennifer Eubanks had 13 and 10 kills each with Eubanks earning 7 blocks as well. Alexi Beach showed of some more incredible blocking with seven of her own while Kaitlyn Robinson led the team with 39 assists. Sydnee Miller earned herself an astounding 32 digs.

Northwestern fell behind early in the early part of the first half 13-7. A five-point run however gave the Rangers the momentum they were looking for and pulled within one. Kills from Honeycutt and Clark put the score at 21-21 and with some tough serving from Robinson, gave them a 24-22 lead. A final slam from Clark, as she always comes in clutch, allowed the Black-and-Red to stanch the first set 25-23.

The second set was a wild one with 15 ties and lead changes in set two alone. Both teams traded points throughout the whole match. Northwestern took an 18-15 lead, but the Tigers rallied back quickly with a five-point run to tie the game 21-21. From there it was a bitter battle as each team could not grab footing until an error gave the Rangers set two 29-27.

Northwestern seemed to take their momentum into the third set, and everyone believed it would be a three-set match, everyone that is except Ouachita. The Tigers hung around for long enough to give themselves an opportunity in the latter half of the set. A five-point final run from Ouachita Baptist gave them the 25-23 set win.

The Tigers rallied through into the next set and took an early 6-3 lead. Then the attacks came from the Ranger offense as they came screaming back to tie the game 10-10. A 10-2 run for the Black-and-Red solidified the Rangers fourth set victory as they added an exclamation point win 25-17 to take the match 3-1.

The Rangers are scheduled to continue their home play in Percefull Fieldhouse on Thursday Oct. 31 to play Southeastern Savage Storm at 7 p.m.
