Northwestern Edges the Reddies in Four

ALVA, Okla.- Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers and Henderson State Reddies were sitting at a six-way tie in the Great American Conference standings with a record of 6-3. It was an even match with both teams refusing to give the other any headway, but the Rangers used their tough defense to edge the HSU throughout the match [29-27, 20-25, 25-29, 25-22]. The Black-and-Red out-blocked Henderson State 27-12.

Senior Kiauna Clark tallied on another fantastic game for the Rangers as she earned 17 kills with a hit percentage of .400 and 5 total blocks. Jennifer Eubanks and Kaydee Honeycutt earned 11 kills apiece with 6 and 5 blocks respectively. Freshman Alexi Beach had herself a game with 4 kills and seven total blocks. Kaitlyn Robinson earned 37 of the 47 assists in the match while Sydnee Miller tallied a team-leading 23 digs.

The first set showed a lot of fight form Northwestern as they had to battle to keep themselves above water. The Rangers fell 4-1 in the early half of the first set but quickly responded with a four-point run of their own led by Clark. Black-and-Red had 10 kills to Henderson's 16 in the match.

After again, falling behind the Black-and-Red rallied back with seven-point run to take the lead 17-16 as they took advantage of some Reddies errors. After a back and forth battle with sixteen different ties and lead changes three straight attack errors gave the Rangers the 29-27 win.

Henderson State came back with a vengeance in the second set. An early 6-0 run really solidified their momentum throughout the set. The Rangers kept themselves close in order stay alive but could not quite take the lead. Some good serving and some tough swings gave the Black-and-Red their first set loss 20-25.

The GAC records showed how equal both teams were with every single set. Northwestern came back hot in the third and intended to take the set from the beginning. A five-point run, with an exclamation point service ace from Robinson gave the Rangers a 21-18 lead in the latter half. The last four points of the set were dominated by Black-and-Red with two kills from freshman Beach. The Northwestern snagged the third 25-19.

The fourth set was all about Northwestern as they went on a 10-1 run, but Henderson State came screaming back with a big run of their own. A battle for the fourth set then ensued as neither team gave much leeway. Clark continued to stand out as she sent the final kill to the court to take the match and fourth set 25-22.

The Black-and-Red is scheduled for another home match against Ouachita Baptist to start of homecoming for the Rangers Saturday at noon.
