Northwestern Rivalry Continues against SWOSU Thursday/OBU Saturday

ALVA, Okla.– Northwestern Oklahoma State University Rangers have continued to improve through the second half of Great American Conference play with a win against Ouachita Baptist last Saturday. They hope to roll with that win as they head to Weatherford for a rivalry match-up against Southwestern Oklahoma State Thursday evening. Another good game with take place in Percefull Fieldhouse as the Black-and-Red take on Oklahoma Baptist Saturday afternoon. The Rangers enter the weekend with an overall record of 5-9, and a 2-6 mark in league play.
 
The Rangers are led by Head Coach Vinay Patel who is in his first season with Northwestern. The Black-and-Red offense continues to be led by Parrish Hewitt who averages 15.1 points per game, with Jaedon Whitfield close behind at 13.0 points per game. A.J. Jones leads the Rangers with 76 total assists.
 
Southwestern Oklahoma State University (Thursday Jan. 16th at 7:30 p.m.)
 
Northwestern will travel to Weatherford for their first rivalry match-up of the season against Southwestern Oklahoma State Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. The Bulldogs have a current record of 7-7 overall record, with a 3-5 Great American Conference record. Southwestern's most recent loss stemmed from Henderson State with a score of 92-74.
 
This will be the 16th match-up between these two inner-state rivals with the record sitting at 10-5 in Northwestern's favor. Most of the Ranger's wins has come from playing at home with a 7-0 record inside of Percefull Fieldhouse. NWOSU took the last match-up with an extremely close score of 98-96 in 2019. Jack Peck had himself a game with 26 points and eight rebounds. Jones and David Thornton each had 16 points, with Jones earning six steals and 16 assists in the match-up.
 
Southwestern is led by Head Coach Terry Evans who is in the middle of his second season. The Bulldogs offense is led by Damion Thornton who averages 19.9 points per game and has 31 steals and 105 total rebounds. Other notable players include Marquis Johnson who averages 10.7 points per game and leads the team with 41 assists.

Oklahoma Baptist University (Saturday Jan. 18th at 3:00 p.m.)
 
The Rangers will then host GAC opponent Oklahoma Baptist Saturday evening at 3:00 p.m at Percefull Fieldhouse for the second meeting this season. The Bison have a 10-4 overall record, with a 5-3 mark in league play. They are riding a three-game winning streak as they took their last win to GAC opponent Arkansas Tech with a score of 75-61.
 
The Bison barely lead the head-to-head match-up between both teams with 10 wins to the Black-and-Red's nine as they head into their 20th game. The Rangers dropped the last game against the OBU this season with a score of 71-83. Hewitt led the team with 17 points. Whitfield earned 12 points and led the team in rebounds with eight. Clive Allen and Peck both tallied 11 points of their own.
 
Oklahoma Baptist is led by Head Coach Jason Eaker who is the middle of his second season at the University. The Bison offense is led by Jaquan Simms who averages 13.1 points per game. Rashad Lewis and Harrison Stoddart both average just under 11 points each, while Lewis leads the team with 56 assists.
