ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern Oklahoma State University Vice President of Athletics Brad Franz has announced the hiring of Ty Danielson as the next head basketball coach.

I would like to thank President Dr. Bo Hannaford, Vice President for Athletics Brad Franz, and the rest of the hiring committee for this incredible opportunity. From the moment I stepped on campus, I knew this was a special place and a community I could thrive in. This is a basketball program with great tradition and potential, and I look forward to building meaningful relationships with our players, staff, and the community of Alva," Danielson said.
"I would also like to thank everyone who has been a part of my journey at Missouri Western University, Fort Lewis College, Washburn University, and the University of North Dakota. I would not be in this position without the sacrifice, guidance, and mentorship of so many. This is a dream come true and I can't wait to meet and thank all of the people who support the program!"
Danielson has been on multiple coaching staffs at the NCAA Division II level, most recently as an assistant coach at NCAA DI the University of North Dakota during the 2025-26 season where they reached the Summit league championship for only the second time in school history.
Prior to his time at UND, he spent time as an assistant at NCAA DII Washburn University helping lead the Ichabods to a 30-4 record, a number one national ranking and the NCAA DII Championship Final Four before losing to eventual champion Nova Southeastern.
Danielson spent time at Fort Lewis College 2021-2024, where he started as the assistant coach for the men's program before being promoted to the Associate Head Coach in 2022 becoming the only Associate Head Coach in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. During his time at Fort Lewis, he was instrumental in leading the Skyhawks to a 78-17 combined record and three RMAC championships including two trips to the NCAA tournament.
Danielson began his coaching career at NCAA Division II Missouri Western as a Graduate Assistant during the 2018-2020 and was promoted to a full-time assistant coach for the 2020-21 season. Missouri Western finished third in his final season in the MIAA, its highest finish in fifteen years.

He is an outstanding teacher of the game, proven recruiter and relates well to his student-athletes. He prioritizes success in the classroom and on the court. He is a grinder and I know the fans of Ranger basketball will enjoy watching his teams play as they will emulate him."
The Rangers open up with Oklahoma Christian University and the University of Minnesota- Crookston at the University of Central Oklahoma tournament on November 13
th.
