Rangers to Host Back-to-Back Home Games

ALVA, Okla.– Northwestern Oklahoma State University Rangers are rolling off a good weekend with a needed win against Southern Arkansas and a tough loss against top ranked Arkansas Monticello. After earning their first conference win the Black-and-Red plan to continue their 2020 year with two good games at Percefull Fieldhouse against Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist. The Rangers enter the weekend with an overall record of 4-8, and a 1-5 mark in league play.

The Rangers are led by Head Coach Vinay Patel who is in his first season with Northwestern. The Black-and-Red offense continues to be led by Parrish Hewitt who averages 15.5 points per game, with Jaedon Whitfield close behind at 12.3 points per game. A.J. Jones leads the Rangers with 61 total assists.

Henderson State University (Thursday Jan. 9th at 7:30 p.m.)

Northwestern's first home game of the year will be Thursday evening against Henderson State with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in Alva, Okla. HSU has a current record of 9-3 overall record, with a 4-2 Great American Conference record. The Reddies are riding a three-game win streak with the last match-up against 2019 Conference Champions Southern Nazarene, 74-55.

This will be the 15th match-up between these two teams with the record sitting tied at 7-7. The record for both teams at home is 5-2, meaning that both struggle on the road. The Rangers took the last match-up with a low score of 69-54 in 2019. Jones led the Rangers with a double-double, 12 points and 11 assists. Andrew Clopton and David Thornton both had 11 points in the game. The Rangers do have an advantage however, as they have taken a win in the last four of five games in Alva.

Henderson State is led by Head Coach Jimmy Elgas who is in the middle of his fifth season. The Reddies offense is led by Chris Parker who averages 16.2 points per game and is consistently the team's leading scorer. Other notable players include Anthony Lupardus and Chris Owens who have both been shooting high percentages from the field, 58.8% and 72% respectively.
