Baseball Travels to Magnolia for a Three Game Series

ALVA, Okla. - The Rangers defeated Newman University Tuesday afternoon 11-6 to end their losing streak. Northwestern will look to build off the momentum from Tuesday afternoon as the team gets set to travel to Magnolia, Arkansas for a three-game series with Southern Arkansas this weekend. The series against Southern Arkansas will make six consecutive conference games on the road.  
 

Bryce Donovan continues to lead Northwestern's offense with a .397 batting average on the season. He has 23 hits on the season with six homeruns 18 RBI, .500 on-base percentage, along with 17 runs. Jake Darrow is off to a great start as he is hitting .392 on the season with 20 hits. Yugo Hamakawa is hitting .362 on the season and is second on the team in hits with 21 on the year. Following Donovan, there are three players tied for second in runs batted in as Brock Randels Daschal Johnson and Colton Whitehouse each have 12 on the year.  

 

Colby Carlson leads the team in wins with a 2-0 record and a 5.54 ERA in three starts so far on the season. Scott Creedon has one win on the year with a 4.51 ERA and the team's only complete game of the season so far. Kaleb Honea has the most innings in relief for the Rangers with 14 innings pitched in the season. 
 

Southern Arkansas:

 

The Muleriders have a 13-2 record on the season, 7-0 at home along with 4-2 in GAC play.  Southern Arkansas is coming off of a 4-1 win over ranked Mississippi College Tuesday. Their last conference series was a loss to Harding on the road. 

Mason Peterson leads their team with a .400 average along with the most in RBIs with 14 on the season. Brett Mcgee leads the team in homeruns for the Muleriders with five on the season and is second with 12 RBIs and a .326 average. Kobe Morris has a .305 average three home runs and 12 RBIs. Ty Manning is second on the team in average with .345 and hits with 19 on the season. 

The Mulerider pitching staff is led by Zach Smith who is 4-0 with a 0.71 ERA in 25 innings pitched. Hunter Brantley and Parker Abrego each have two wins as starters as well. In relief, Tanner Vaught has a 1.98 ERA, two wins and two saves on the season in 13.2 innings pitched. 

 

Series History:

The Rangers will look to end a 10 game losing streak against the Muleriders who have taken 18 of the 21 games against Northwestern in the team meetings. Rangers' last win came in March 2016 with the last one in Magnolia coming back in 2014. Southern Arkansas won the three games last season by a total of 19-14 with all three games being within two runs.
