Northwestern Splits Weekend Home and Away

ALVA, Okla.– Northwestern Oklahoma State University Rangers finished with a successful weekend and two more close games against Great American Conference opponents Arkansas Monticello and Southern Arkansas. The Rangers were able to take the win against the Muleriders with a score of 75-68 as they head into the month of February.
 
The Red-and-Black hope to continue to see success into February as they take on Southern Nazarene University and East Central University. The Rangers enter the weekend with an overall record of 7-13, and a 4-10 mark in league play. 
 
The Rangers are led by Head Coach Vinay Patel who is in his first season with Northwestern. The Red-and-Black offense is led by Parrish Hewitt who averages 16 points per game while having a .336 shooting percentage from beyond the arc, with Jaedon Whitfield close behind at 13.5 points per game and 135 total rebounds. A.J. Jones continues to lead the Rangers with 76 assists per game.
 
Southern Nazarene University (Thursday Feb. 5th at 7:30 p.m.)
 
With the second week of February coming to a close the Rangers will host their third game in a row against top GAC opponent Southern Nazarene. The Crimson Storm have continued to play amazing basketball with an overall score of 16-6, and a league mark of 10-4. They will be entering Percefull Fieldhouse with a two-game win streak as they dominated both Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist with scores of 71-67 and 70-47 respectively.
 
The Crimson Storm lead the overall match-up with 13 wins to the Ranger's 12. Southern Nazarene took the last game with a score of 81-56, however, Northwestern holds an 11-9 record at home. This will be the second time that the Red-and-Black face Southern Nazarene this season with Nate Bailey leading the way with 19 points and four rebounds. Whitfield followed close behind with 12 points. 
 
Southern Nazarene is led by Head Coach Adam Bohac who is the middle of his 12th season. The Crimson Storm offense is led by Jhonathan Dunn who averages 27.1 points per game and leads the team in rebounds with 125. Micah Speight follows with 18.5 average points a game and leads the team in steals and assists with 39 and 118 respectively.

East Central University (Saturday Feb. 8that 3:00 p.m.)
 
Northwestern finishes their weekend off with a trip to East Central to take on the Tigers for their 10th match-up overall. ECU is sitting with an overall 15-5, and a conference record of 9-5. The Tigers are coming off a three-game win streak with the most recent game going into double overtime against GAC opponent Harding with East Central coming out on top 103-94.
 
As the Rangers face the Tigers for the second time they will hope to rebound after taking the tough loss of 74-79 earlier in the season. East Central leads the Rangers with five wins to their four all time with neither team earning an advantage on the road or at home. Hewitt earned a season high 31 points hitting four of eight shots from beyond the arc. Whitfield followed with a double-double tallying 14 points and 11 rebounds.
 
East Central is led by Head Coach Ja Havens who is in the middle of his seventh season. The Tiger's offense is led by Camron Tailey who averages 22.6 points per game as well as a team leading 54 assists, followed by Taylor Arnold and Gerren Jackson with 11 points per game respectively.
