Box Score ALVA, Okla. The Rangers opened up the 2020 Ranger Roundup on Thursday afternoon as they took on Washburn. Northwestern came in having Tuesday's game postponed but look to carry some momentum in from the previous Sunday in their come from behind victory.
Washburn opened the game scoring the first three runs before Northwestern answered with one. However, the Ichabods would respond with two and would take that 5-1 lead and carry that through most of the game before closing out a 6-3 victory.
Bryce Donovan continued his fast start to the season producing three hits along with an RBI in this afternoon's game.
Daschal Johnson would have two hits along with Brett Erickson adding two as well. Parker Base and Justin Gordon would have an RBI each.
Scott Creedon picked up his second straight loss throwing five innings giving up five runs, on 10 hits along with seven strikeouts. Jacob Uhing followed him pitching four innings allowing one run.
The Red-and-Black fell behind early as Washburn loaded the bases. They got a productive 2-RBI single to go out in front 2-0 in the first.
Washburn was able to tack on another run from a Zion Bowlin solo homerun to extend their lead to 3-0. The Rangers would respond with a run of their own trying to climb back into the game, as Gordon would sacrifice bunt, scoring Billy Rogers making it a 3-1 game.
The Ichabods wasted no time getting back on the scoreboard as they added two runs in the third. The first from a solo homerun, followed by an RBI double coming later in the inning increasing their lead to 5-1.
The game turned into a small pitchers duel after that top half of third as the teams would combine for four straight shutout innings before the Rangers ended the streak.
Northwestern's part of the seventh Base would hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Dylan Norsen to cut into the deficit making it a 5-2 ballgame after seven full innings.
The game would stay 5-2 until the ninth when the teams traded runs. For Northwestern Donovan hit an RBI single to centerfield scoring Erickson. After that RBI single Washburn was able to close the game out from there to hang on to a 6-3 victory over the Lady Rangers.
Rangers will drop to 1-3 on the season. It will be a very quick turnaround as they are right back in action Friday at 12 pm for the second game of the 2020 Ranger Roundup as the Rangers will play host to Truman State University.
