ALVA, Okla- Northwestern would open day two of the Ranger Roundup against Truman State University. Truman State was able to come out with the victory early Friday afternoon by a final score of 12-7.
The Rangers lineup was ready to produce Saturday afternoon having seven runs off of 13 hits. Yugo Hamakawa continued his quick start to the season with three hits and a walk with two runs scored. Bryce Donovan hit a two-run homerun to continue to produce in the Ranger lineup. Jake Darrow added three hits. Brock Randels produced an RBI as well.
Brody Shook threw a strong 2.1IP giving up 1 run (0ER), and Sean Rydell pitched 0.2IP of scoreless baseball. Starter Grant French went 0.2IP allowing three runs along with three hits. French drops to 0-2 on the season.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early first inning lead as in the first inning they earned a run off of a bases loaded walk, sacrifice fly, and then an RbI single through the left into left field. Then in the second inning Truman was able to extend their lead from a wild pitch, followed by a single to left making it a 5-0 game. Truman would hit their largest lead for the first time of the game from a sacrifice fly scoring that sixth run.
The fifth inning would start the Rangers comeback bid. Started off by a Randels two RBI double scoring Hamakawa and Marques Paige. Later in the fifth after Randels scored on an error that had Darrow reach base, Parker Base followed with an RBI single to right field. After the fifth the Rangers trailed the Bulldogs 6-4.
The sixth inning the Bulldogs were able to steal a run back as they ran a double steal and took advantage of an error to advance home on the throw.
The seventh inning the Bulldogs took advantage of a few Ranger miscues, allowing two runs one from a passed ball, and a second on a wild pitch. The third run later came off a sacrifice fly.Truman State finished off their five run seventh with a homerun. Donovan made it an 11-6 game from a 2-run homerun to right center field.
Rangers would get their seventh and final run from a Donvan sacrifice fly.
Truman State would add a run in the ninth and would go on to win by a final score of 12-7.
The Ranger Round up will continue Saturday afternoon. Northwestern will take on Rockhurst at 3:30PM at Glass Family Field at Myers Stadium
