Rangers End Skid with 6-3 Victory over Washburn

ALVA, Okla.-  Rangers looked to bring an end to their most recent three game losing streak Sunday afternoon. The Red-and-Black took on Washburn to close out the 2020 Ranger Roundup. Rangers were able to get the early lead Sunday and carried that to a 6-3 victory over the Ichabods.

The Red-and-Black jumped out early and never looked back. The Rangers rallied behind 6 runs on 12 hits in the afternoon. Bryce Donovan led the charge with a 3 for 3 day at the plate with a walk. He was followed by Dylan Norsen, and Colton Whitehouse who had two hits apiece. Daschal Johnson led the team with a 2RBI day for Northwestern.

Colby Carlson got the start for Northwestern Sunday afternoon and turned in a terrific performance. Carlosn went seven innings giving up three runs with five strikeouts in his first start of the season. He picked up the victory to improve to 1-0 on the season. Jacob Uhing came in relief going two innings giving up zero runs and striking out three. He picked up his first save of the season.

After a scoreless first inning the Rangers took the early lead in the second inning. Donovan led the inning off with a walk then stole second. This allowed Brett Erickson to drive him in on a single to give the Rangers their first lead of the game. Whitehouse would later drive the second run in on a single to center field that would score Yugo Hamakawa

After Washburn was able to get their first run in the top half of the inning, the Rangers offense responded in a big way getting back at it again brining in three more runs. Donovan would single to right field scoring Norsen. As Johnson came up with runners on the corners he ripped a double off the left field wall scoring Donovan and Parker Base stretching the Ranger lead to 5-0.

The Red-and-Black tacked on their final run in the fifth inning. With runners on first and second Hamakawa came up to the plate and drove in a run on a single to right field for his first RBI of the game and extended the lead to 6-1.

Washburn would try and make a push in the seventh getting two runs on an RBI signle to bring the game to 6-3, however Carlson had other thoughts by shutting the rest of the inning down.

Uhing came in to pitch the 8th and 9th inning, in which he pitched two clean innings while striking out three. Uhing closed the game out and sealed the 6-3 Northwestern victory over Washburn
