Lady Rangers Defeat the Bison in Shawnee

ALVA, Okla. – The Lady Rangers defeated the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist, 68-62, Thursday evening in Shawnee. 
 
Northwestern Women's Basketball gained their fifth straight victory over OBU, and Coach Tasha Diesselhorst snagged her 50th collegiate win after the-Red-and-Black secured an impressive 58 team rebounds.
 
"From the girls that gave me my first game ball for my first collegiate win, to the girls I coach now, they are all what make these 50 wins special." Diesselhorst explained.
 
"The memories made on the journey are what I cherish most." 
 
"I thought we did an outstanding job on the boards tonight when we went through scoring droughts." Diesselhorst said. 
 
"Mya was huge on the boards and we had several guards step up at different times to knock down shots, it's a great road win for us to build on." 
 
Mya Johnson finished with a double-double of 13 points and 20 rebounds. Johnson finished the first half with 16 rebounds. She shot 5-of-10 from inside and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. Johnson also blocked three OBU players. 
 
Josena Frame scored 11 points, shooting 4-of-9 from inside and 3-of-6 from deep. 
 
Bailey Brown racked up nine points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. She also had two steals and a block. 
 
Kaylee Jo Neeley finished with nine points, six rebounds and three assists.
 
Kiana Walker also finished with nine points on the board along with six rebounds, one steal and an assist.

FIRST QUARTER
Johnson won the tip-off, but the Bison fired first after Jaylin Stapleton drained a jumper from inside. Scout Frame answered back with a layup, followed by a quick score from Johnson. Neeley rattled in a jumper and a free throw at the four-minute mark to stay on top of the Bison by four until OBU racked up a three-point-play from Jacie Engler to keep the scores within one. Johnson kept the Lady Rangers ahead after rolling in a layup to end the quarter 9-8, NWOSU. 
 
SECOND QUARTER 
Brown scored first for the-Red-and-Black two minutes into the second quarter, followed by two perfect free throws from Kes Reeves. At the six-minute mark S. Frame sank the Lady Rangers first score from deep followed by Walker's nine-point scoring run to close the first half. Northwestern went into the locker room on top of the Bison, 28-25.
 
THIRD QUARTER 
Charissa Price rolled in a layup for OBU to open the third quarter followed by a jumper from Stapleton and an inside score from Andreja Peciuraite. A layup and two free throws from Johnson kept the-Red-and-Black ahead of the Bison by four. J. Frame drained a three pointer at the five-minute mark. Quick scores from Johnson, Reeves, Brown and Neeley boosted the Lady Rangers' lead by seven. Another three-point-play from J. Frame kept Northwestern ahead by eight to end the quarter. NWOSU led heading into the final minutes of play, 53-45. 
 
FOURTH QUARTER
Neeley opened the quarter with an inside score assisted by Brown. After two minutes of play a deep three pointer from Lizzie Shephard put the Lady Rangers up by 14. Savanna Malou rattled in a three pointer for the Bison but the-Red-and-Black stayed alive, finishing on top of the Bison for their fifth straight victory over the GAC opponent 68-62. 
 
 
OKLAHOMA BAPTIST
 
Peciuraite led the Bison with 14 points, eight rebounds and two blocks. 
She stole the ball three times and shot 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. 
 
Stapleton racked up 13 points with six assists and one steal.
 
Kayla Highfill finished with 10 points and three steals.
