Rangers Sweep the Falcons in Season Opener

ALVA, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State women's volleyball team, led by Head Coach Fred Aubuchon, delivered a thriller inside Percefull Fieldhouse. The Rangers (1-0, 0-0 GAC) took down Friends University (6-8, 2-5 KCAC) in three sets (25-14, 25-16, 25-20) to open the 2021 season. 
 
"There is nothing better than getting a chance to play the game you love." Aubuchon explains. 
 
"That's what these young ladies got to do today, finally, after 429 days." He adds.
 
"I am already looking forward to our next match!" 
 
Two different Rangers recorded double-digit kills, which resulted in a .179 team hitting percentage. Kaydee Honeycutt led the team in points with 14 kills, two blocks, two assists and six digs. Kate Deterding grabbed a double-double behind 10 kills and 16 digs, she finished with a .273 hitting clip (10-4-22). Ravyn Burns and Courtney Russell tallied five kills apiece while Madison Dehlinger finished with three. Sydnee Miller chipped in 16 digs with three service aces and Avery Osburg handed out 32 assists, five digs and two aces. Burns posted the team-high of four blocks.

SET 1: Russell registered four kills in the opening set, followed by Honeycutt who finished with three. Northwestern scored the first four points and stayed ahead for the remainder of the frame. Kills by Tarra Parks and Osburg wrapped up the first set, 25-14. 
 
SET 2: The Rangers fired first in the second set for three consecutive points. Deterding led the set with six kills followed by Honeycutt who racked up five. The-Red-and-Black never trailed in the set and kills from Deterding and Burns left Northwestern up 2-0, (25-16). 
 
SET 3: The Falcons answered first in the final set, but after four lead changes and five ties the Rangers never looked back as they cruised to a 25-20 victory. Honeycutt led the set with six kills followed by Deterding and Dehlinger with three apiece. Miller added six digs during the final points of the contest.

FALCONS
Friends' Remyngton Green led the Falcons with seven kills and a .158 hitting percentage. Alyssa Arnold finished with the team-high of 15 digs. Mackenzie Glasse blocked four opponents and Abigail Knittel assisted her teammates 15 times.

With the sweep, Northwestern moves to 1-0 overall and 0-0 in conference play.
