Lady Rangers Fall Short in Final Minute

ALVA, Okla. – The Lady Rangers finished five points behind the Tigers of East CentralThursday night. 
 
Northwestern Women's Basketball moves to 4-6 overall and 2-6 in GAC play. The Tigers improve to 7-1 overall and 7-1 in the Great American Conference. 
 
The Red-and-Black finished with two players in double digit scoring figures: Mya Johnson and Kaylee Jo Neeley
 
Johnson earned another double-double after scoring 14 points and snagging 11 rebounds. She finished scoring 6-of-11 from field goal range and 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. Johnson also tallied two blocks and a steal. 
 
Neeley racked up 11 points and four rebounds. She made 5-of-6 from the free-throw line and 3-of-6 from inside. 
 
Bailey Brown assisted eight players, grabbed 11 rebounds and scored eight points. 
 
Josena Frame finished with eight points, two assists, one steal and one rebound.

FIRST QUARTER 
The Tigers fired first after Hannah Ladd drained a three pointer to immediately go up three on the Lady Rangers. Johnson scored first for the Red-and-Black after she rolled in a layup that was assisted by J. Frame and got fouled by Kendall Schulte of East Central. Johnson hit the extra point opportunity and tied the scores with seven minutes left to go in the first quarter. The Lady Rangers went up six on the Tigers after Brown rattled in two free throws, followed by made three pointers from Lizzie Shephard and Kiana Walker. Northwestern led East Central at the end of the first quarter after Brown rolled in a quick score to keep her team's lead at six. (15-9, NWOSU) 
 
SECOND QUARTER 
J. Frame splashed a three pointer to go up nine on the Tigers at the start of the second period. Schulte answered back with an inside score, followed by a pair of free throws from Mackenzie Crusoe. Brown scored inside the paint and Schulte rattled in a three pointer to cut the Northwestern lead to just four points. Kes Reeves pulled up from inside and racked up two more points for the Red-and-Black followed by another score from Johnson down below. Schulte scored two more points and Ella Schultz rolled in a layup to go into the locker room only down by two points. The Lady Rangers led 24-22 at halftime. 
 
THIRD QUARTER
Neeley put in two free throws to open the second half. Schultz scored off a layup and Scout Frame answered with a three pointer that was assisted by Brown. Crusoe and Schulte both scores from deep and Neeley tossed in a layup. Northwestern went up three on the Tigers after Johnson put in back-to-back layups. Quick scores from Schulte, Izzy Cummins and Alexis Lyons allowed the Tigers to take a one-point lead to end the third quarter. (43-42, ECU)
 
FOURTH QUARTER 
Another pair of made free throws from Neeley opened the final minutes of the matchup. Lyons hit a three pointer from deep followed by a layup from Madison Rehl. The Tigers went up seven points on the Lady Rangers after Crusoe scored three points from the wing. J. Frame and Johnson cut the lead the just one but free throws from Lyons, Crusoe and Rehl allowed the Tigers to defeat the Red-and-Black during the final seconds. East Central finished on top of the Lady Rangers 58-53.

Lyons finished with 10 points, four rebounds, one block and two steals.
