Rangers Fall in Friday Match to Arkansas Tech

ALVA, OKLA- Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers returned home to Percefull Fieldhouse for a Friday evening matchup against Arkansas Tech. The Golden Suns took advantage of a fast start to lead them to a 3-0 match win Friday evening. 

Northwestern falls to 6-15 on the season 2-6 in Great American Conference. Arkansas Tech improves to 14-3 on the year 8-0 in GAC play.

The Rangers were led by Kaydee Honeycutt in kills with ten on the evening, followed by Wimmer with seven kills and Courtney Russell with four. Abby Davis led with 12 assists, followed by Abigail Burns with ten and three others with two. Tarra Parks led with 14 digs, followed by Addison Wimmer with 11 digs and Abby Davis with seven. Carmen Jones led the team with three blocks with Russell and Burns with two. 

Set One: 
Northwestern opened the match fast with three quick points to take a 3-0 lead on two services from Abby Davis and then a kill from Parks. Tech got on the board, killing the run, but the Rangers opened a 5-1 lead and eventually with a 7-3 lead. The visitors would go on a 4-0 run to tie the opening set at 7-7. The Golden Suns would take their first lead at 10-9 following a 2-0 run and eventually stopping at 3-0 with an 11-9 lead. Northwestern went on a couple of 2-0 runs, but the Golden Suns kept answering back, eventually opening up a 21-15 in the first set. The Golden Suns would close out the set and win the first set by a score of 25-18 to take set one and a 1-0 match lead. 

Set Two:
Arkansas Tech jumped out early in set two with the first two points of the second set before eventually opening a 7-2 lead over the Rangers after five consecutive points. Northwestern would end their run, but Tech would continue onto another one with back-to-back kills to take a 10-3 lead and eventually their largest lead at 17-5. Northwestern would go on their largest run with a 4-0 run on two kills from Jessica Thompson to cut their deficit to seven at 18-11. The Red-and-Black would get as close as six at 21-15, following with a kill from Ravyn Burns and two Golden Suns errors. Arkansas Tech would close the set out at 25-16 to take set two and take a 2-0 match lead. 

Set Three: 

The third set Tech opened with the point before the Rangers responded with the next four points. In set three, Honeycutt finished off with two kills and a service ace to take a 4-1 lead. Arkansas Tech would come back to even the set at 5-5 and tie three other times, eventually to 11-11. This tie score would be at the start of the Golden Sun run of 8-0 to open a 17-11 lead. Northwestern would end that run on a Honeycutt kills to start a 6-0 run to bring the set to 17-16. The run was a spread-out attack with kills from Honeycutt, Jones, and Russell. Northwestern would come back and tie the set at 19-19 on a Jones service ace. Tech went up 23-20, as Northwestern comeback fell short in the set as they would cut it to 24-23 before the Golden Suns won set three 25-23 and the match 3-0.

The Rangers will be back in action Saturday afternoon at 1 PM against Harding University in Percefull Fieldhouse for a Great American Conference matchup for the second match of the three-game homestand.
