Rangers Drop Saturday's Match 3-1 to Harding

ALVA, OKLA- Northwestern Oklahoma State continued their three-game homestand with the Saturday match against Harding. The Bisons used a solid second set to gain momentum and win three straight to win the match 3-1 over the Rangers after Northwestern took set one. 

The loss moves Northwestern to a 6-15 record 2-7 in the conference, while Harding moves to 10-6 overall and 6-3 in conference play. 

Kaydee Honeycutt led the Rangers in kills with 21 on the afternoon, followed by Addison Wimmer with 16 and Courtney Russell with four. Ravyn Burns led the team in blocks with six, followed by Jones' four and Honeycutt with three. Abigail Burns with 25 assists on the day, followed by Abby Davis 20 and Tarra Parks with two. Wimmer led the team in digs with 24, followed by Parks 23 and Davis 11. 

Set 1: 

Harding tried to jump out fast in the opening set with a quick 2-0 lead, but the Rangers would get on the board ending that run. Harding opened a 5-2 lead, but a Honeycutt kill would end that and start a run for the Rangers. With Northwestern trailing 7-4, the Rangers would rally off for five straight points to take a 9-7 lead over the Bisons as serves by Carmae Jones led to three attack errors by the Bisons. Northwestern would continue to put the pressure on Harding, holding a 13-11 lead would go for three straight points to take a 16-11 lead following a kill by Honeycutt. Harding would pick up a kill to end the run, but the Rangers again would follow with another 3-0 run to build a 19-12 lead over Harding in the opening set following kills from Honeycutt and Maggie Peterson. A Jones service ace and two kills by Wimmer pushed the lead to 22-14. Northwestern would close the first set out with a 25-18 victory over Harding to take a 1-0 match lead. 

Set 2: 

Harding did not waste any time trying to change the narrative after set one with three straight points to open set two taking a 3-0 lead. A kill by Russell would push the Rangers deficit to two at 5-3. The Bisons followed with four straight points to take a 9-3 lead over the Rangers. Northwestern would use a 4-0 run-on serves from Abigail Burns to push the deficit back down to three at 11-8. Harding was trying to keep the Rangers distant, but at 19-15, the Rangers would rally four straight points to tie the game on a service ace followed by a Madison Dehlinger kill and two from Wimmer to make the game 19-19. Out of a Bisons timeout, Harding would rally for three consecutive points to regain the lead at 22-19 and would close the set out with a 25-22 set two victory over the Rangers, tying the match at one. 

Set 3: 

The Bisons got on the board first, but the Rangers quickly answered with a kill from Honeycut and Jones to take a 3-1 lead early third set. Harding would tie the set at three, as the third set would start with a battle as the game would stay tied at 5-5 and 7-7 before Harding jumped out in front with a four to nothing run to take an 11-7 lead over the Rangers. Northwestern would try to answer back with three straight points following a kill from Honeycutt to bring the game back to 11-10 in favor of Harding. The visitors eventually took a 16-12 lead over the Rangers as a Russell kill would bring the deficit back to one at 17-16. Harding pushed their lead back to 20-16 and eventually closing set three out with a 25-20 victory over the Rangers for a 2-1 match lead. 

Set 4:

Harding, looking to close out the match, jumped out with the first three points of the fourth set before a Honeycutt kill put the Rangers on the board. Harding went up 5-1 and eventually 7-4 before the Rangers tried answering back, pushing the deficit back to one at 7-6 in favor of Harding. Northwestern would tie the third set at 8-8 and 9-9 before a 3-0 Harding run pushed them back in front with a 12-9 lead. The Bisons would not lose the lead from there, holding a two-point lead before going on a run with three straight kills to take a 21-15 lead. Harding would close the set-out and hold on to beat the Rangers 25-18 inset four and 3-1 overall in the match. 

The Rangers will return to action on Tuesday, October 19th, against Cameron University to close out the three-game homestand. Northwestern will return to conference play on Friday and Saturday against Arkansas Monticello and Southern Arkansas.
