Ranger Volleyball Completes Match Sweep Tuesday Evening

 

ALVA, OKLA- Northwestern concluded their homestand Tuesday evening with a non-conference match against Cameron University. Rangers used a fast start to take advantage in the opening set, taking the first three points before completing the sweep over Cameron University Tuesday. 

The Rangers improve to 7-16 on the season after the nonconference win, while the Aggies fall to 1-21 on the season. 

Northwestern was led by Kaydee Honeycutt, who finished with a double-double after leading the Rangers with 13 kills and in digs with 18 on the evening. Addison Wimmer finished with five kills, followed by Courtney Russell with four. The Rangers were led in assists by Abigail Burns with 17, Abby Davis with 11. Tarra Parks finished with 13 digs, followed by Maggie Peterson with 12. 

Set 1: 

The Red-and-Black jumped out fast, taking the set's first three points with the scoring opened by a Honeycutt kill. Cameron got back with a 4-0 run to take their first lead of the set. With the set even at five, seven, and later nine through a close opening set, Northwestern went out to score six of the following seven points to take a 14-10 lead behind Abigail Burns serve, leading to multiple errors from the Aggies. Northwestern opened a six-point lead at 18-12, including two kills from Ravyn Burns on the run. Cameron tried to make a push with four out of the following five points, which the Rangers answered back and a kill from Russell. Northwestern would later close out the set with a 25-21 set one victory to take a 1-0 match lead over the Aggies. 

Set 2: 

Northwestern would carry the momentum into the next set, opening with three straight points to begin the set on a back-to-back kill from Honeycutt and Jones. The set was tied at five after the small Cameron run, which was ended by a Russell kill. This was followed by a 5-0 run to open a 12-6 Northwestern lead, which included a service ace from Abigail Burns, followed by a kill from Wimmer and Ravyn Burns. Cameron would use a 6-0 run to bounce back into the set, evening the score at 14 apiece. Following a timeout, Northwestern had the answer, though, with five consecutive points to regain the lead at 19-14, which featured kills from Carmae Jones and Honeycutt. Northwestern, holding a 19-18 lead, would use a Jones kill followed by service ace to gain complete control before closing the second set out this time at 25-22 following an Aggie error to push the Rangers match lead to 2-0. 

Set 3: 

The Rangers were looking to end the set with a match sweep following the set's two wins. Cameron took the first point of the set before trading points before an even 3-3 score. Northwestern would then storm to an 8-0 run to open a seven-point lead over the Aggies all started from a Madison Dehlinger kill and back-to-back Honeycutt kills. The Aggies would get as close as three in the third set following the Ranger run, but Northwestern quickly responded following a 12-9 score. Northwestern would then take five of the following six points in the set, continuing to build upon their lead. Two Honeycutt kills and a kill from Wimmer pushed the Rangers to an 18-10 lead. Northwestern would then force a 4-0 run on the Aggies for a 22-11 lead for the first double-digit lead of the match in a set. A Wimmer kill closed the set-out and the match for a 25-14 set victory and a 3-0 match sweep over the visiting Aggies. 

This weekend, Northwestern will hit the road for two conference matchups against Arkansas-Monticello and Southern Arkansas as they travel to Monticello and Magnolia Arkansas, respectively.
