Lady Rangers Fall to The Bronchos on Friday Evening

EDMOND, OKLAHOMA- The Lady Rangers opened their 2021-2022 season Friday evening as a part of the MIAA/ GAC challenge against the Bronchos of Central Oklahoma. The host team used a solid opening quarter and a half to take a 45-22 lead the break before leading to the Central Oklahoma victory Friday evening.

Bailey Brown led all scorers Friday with 17 points in the opening game, followed by Carly Craig with nine and three scorers tied with four. Craig and Camille Thomas led the team with six rebounds each, and Kinsey Neiderer and Scout Frame led the team with two assists.

Central Oklahoma started the scoring with a 7-0 run to gain an early lead. Carly Craig would open the scoring for the Rangers season with a three-pointer to bring the game back within four. A Brown foul shot brought the Rangers back with four at 12-8. The home team would push an 8-0 run toward the end of the quarter to take a 20-10 end of the first quarter lead for the Bronchos. Central Oklahoma used a strong defensive first quarter, forcing 11 turnovers to help gain the 10 point lead.

The two teams would battle in the opening minutes of the second quarter, trading early baskets as the Rangers looked to spark a comeback. Craig hit a three to cut the deficit back to single digits. However, a 9-2 Central Oklahoma run had the Bronchos backup by 15 at 30-15 in the second quarter. Central Oklahoma would maintain the early lead trading basket for basket with the Rangers as Northwestern trailed by 15 at 36-21 with three minutes to go in the opening half. A Central Oklahoma 9-0 run would then push the Ranger deficit to 24 points at 45-21 before a Badley foul shot sent the game into halftime with a 45-22 game where the Rangers trailed at the break.

The third quarter started with the Rangers trying to push a second-half comeback with a Brown jump shot bringing the score back within 20 at 47-28. As Central Oklahoma held a 52-32 lead over the Rangers, the defensive intensity would pick up as the game would see a 2:30 minute scoring drought for both teams before Craig foul shots would end the scoring drought. The Bronchos would push their largest lead of the game to this point of one minute to play in the third quarter, with the Rangers trailing 61-35. A Carlie Badley jumper would end the third quarter with the Rangers trailing 61-37.

Camille Thomas would open the fourth-quarter scoring with a fastbreak layup for the Rangers in the opening seconds. The game would hit a roadblock in scoring with a three-minute scoring drought before Central Oklahoma foul shots would end the drought. Josena Frame, with 6:34 left in the quarter, would hit the first field goal since the early fourth quarter basket. Central Oklahoma would hit their largest lead of the game in the final minute going up by 33. An Anna Motycka jump shot would give the game its final score at 79-48 in favor of Central Oklahoma.
