Lady Rangers Fall in Conference Battle Saturday to Southern Nazarene

Bethany, Okla.- The Lady Rangers returned to play Saturday afternoon after a week off as they traveled to Bethany in a 69-37 loss to the Crimson Storm. Southern Nazarene used a solid opening quarter out, scoring the Lady Rangers 21-9.

Overall, the loss drops the Rangers to 3-5 on the season and 0-3 in Great American Conference play.

The Red-and-Black were led by senior Bailey Brown finishing the game with 13 points, followed by Scout Frame with four and Camille Thomas with four. Brown led the team with seven rebounds, followed by Carly Craig and Kes Reeves with four each. Craig and Dixon led the team with two assists.

1st quarter:

Northwestern jumped out fast in the opening quarter after a Brown layup opened the game's scoring following the tip-off. Northwestern held a 4-0 lead three minutes into the opening quarter as the Lady Ranger defense held the Crimson Storm scoreless in the early going. The Storm would tie the game at 4-4 with 6:56 left in the opening quarter. This would start a 19-2 run for the home team as the Crimson Storm shot five of six from the field on eight points from Gillette. The Crimson Storm defense forced six Lady Ranger turnovers on the run. Northwestern trailed 21-9 as the opening quarter came to a close.

2nd quarter:

The Lady Rangers opened the quarter with a strong defense after opening the quarter with the first three points of the second. Northwestern held the Crimson Storm scoreless for the first 3:30 minutes of the quarter as the first Storm basket was with 6:29 left in the quarter. The Rangers trailed 23-12 in the quarter. The quarter was a defensive battle as the Rangers followed with a scoring drought of their own going two minutes without a basket. Before Brown would hit a three to stop the Storm run with the Lady Rangers down by 12, Crimson Storm would open their largest lead of the game to that point right before halftime as in the closing minutes of the half; a layup would put the home team in front 38-19.

The 19 point lead would be the halftime scoring with the Lady Rangers trailing.

3rd quarter:

Southern Nazarene got the scoring started in the 3rd quarter on a shot from Jones to push their lead to 21. The two teams were battling trading possession in the quarter as the deficit would remain at 21 points four three minutes, taking the game to the halfway point of the third quarter. The Crimson Storm would go on an 8-0 run in the final two minutes of the third quarter to take a 27 point lead at the end of the quarter holding a 53-26 lead.

4th quarter:

The Crimson Storm would push their run to 12-0 as they opened the final quarter with four points on back-to-back layups. The SNU defense held the Lady Rangers scoreless until the 6:40 mark of the fourth Quarter after Camille Thomas hit a layup to put the Rangers on the board in the fourth quarter. The Crimson Storm built their lead to 30 just under the halfway point of the quarter. Southern Nazarene would finish the game with a 69-37 victory over the Rangers Saturday afternoon.

On Tuesday, Northwestern will be back in action as the Lady Rangers return home for a non-conference game against Bacone. The Red-and-Black will return to conference play on Saturday the 18th with a home game against Southeastern.
