Rangers Fall to SWOSU After Five Sets

ALVA, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State volleyball team fell to the Bulldogs of Southwestern 2-3 after five sets (25-21, 22-25, 18-25, 27-25, 9-15).
 
"Tonight, was a very tough match for us mentally, we had too many unforced errors that I wouldn't expect us to make." Head Coach Fred Aubuchon said. 
 
"In the end it's on me, I need to do a much better job preparing us." 
 
"I fully believe in these girls and I still believe we will have a great season." Aubuchon explained.
 
Northwestern Volleyball (RV) moves to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the Great American Conference.
 
The Rangers are sitting number two in the nation for blocks per set. They average 3.26 blocks per set. 
 
Kate Deterding recorded a career-high of 22 kills and posted a .234 hitting percentage. She finished with a 22-7-64 hitting clip and chipped in 17 digs along with three blocks. 
 
Kaydee Honeycutt tallied 18 kills, 16 digs and four blocks. Honeycutt finished the match with a .192 hitting percentage off a 18-8-52 clip.  
 
Ravyn Burns finished with six kills, five blocks and a 6-3-17 hitting clip. Burns is ranked #4 in the nation for blocks per set with 1.56
 
Courtney Russell chipped in five kills, seven digs and four blocks. 
 
Sydnee Miller recorded 25 digs, one kill, four assists and two service aces. 
 
Avery Osburg assisted the team 40 times, earned one kill and recorded 14 digs. Osburg also earned two service aces. 
 
Carmae Jones is ranked #3 in the nation for blocks per set, she currently averages 1.67 a set. Jones finished the night with two kills and two blocks.

SET 1: (25-21, NW)
Northwestern opened the set with immediate kills from Honeycutt, Jessica Thompson and Burns. The Rangers were victorious in the first set after they defeated the Bulldogs 25-21. Honeycutt snagged six kills, Deterding added two and Burns chipped in two. Osburg finished the set with nine assists and six digs. Russell blocked Southwestern three times and recorded one dig. The Rangers finished hitting .205 off of a 11-2-44 clip while the Bulldogs posted a 13-7-42 clip and a .143 hitting percentage. 
 
SET 2: (25-22, SW) 
The Bulldogs finished the second set victorious after holding Northwestern to a 9-7-35 clip and a .057 attack percentage. Southwestern finished hitting .103 with 13 kills, six blocks and 18 digs. Deterding led the Red-and-Black with five kills, five digs and three blocks. Miller led defensively with seven digs and Osburg assisted the Rangers six times. 
 
SET 3: (25-18, SW)
Southwestern snagged back-to-back set victories after hitting .324 off of a 13-1-37 clip. Northwestern opened the set with kills from Honeycutt, Jones and Deterding. The Rangers were led by Honeycutt's six kills, one block and seven digs. Deterding chipped in four kills and three digs. The Bulldogs were led by Samantha Kuma's five kills and .625 attack percentage. 
 
SET 4: (27-25, NW)
The Rangers bounced back 27-25 after losing two straight sets to the Bulldogs. Northwestern finished hitting .300 with a 16-4-40 clip, they held Southwestern to a 16-7-47 clip and a .191 attack percentage. Deterding led the Red-and-Black with nine kills and five digs, she finished hitting .368 with a 9-2-19 clip. Southwestern was led by three players that finished with four kills apiece: Kuzma, Taryn Galt and Chezney Nielsen. 
 
SET 5: (15-9, SW) 
The Bulldogs defeated the Rangers in Alva after winning the final set 15-9. Southwestern held Northwestern to hitting .032, while the Bulldogs posted a .222 attack percentage. SWOSU finished with eight kills, 18 digs and two attacking errors. NWOSU tallied six kills, 17 digs and five attack errors. Honeycutt and Deterding both led Northwestern in the last set with two kills apiece, while Miller chipped in six digs.

Lacy Mott led the Bulldogs with 17 kills, 22 digs and three service aces. 
 
Kuzma finished with 15 kills, seven digs and three blocks. 
 
Nielsen tallied 14 kills and 10 digs. She finished hitting .217 with a 14-4-46 clip. 
 
Galt recorded six blocks, 11 kills and four digs. 
 
Allie Hoang led defensively with 24 digs, four blocks and 45 assists.
