Ranger Volleyball Falls Short at ECU

ADA, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State volleyball team came up short in three straight sets (12-25, 16-25, 19-25) against the Tigers of East Central in Ada. 
 
"As the coach I should've done better to prepare us for a road game, we were completely out of our element playing outside of Percefull Fieldhouse for the first time since November of 2019." Head Coach Fred Aubuchon explained. 
 
"As bad as things were tonight, I still have complete confidence in what we can do this season, most importantly none of us can give up on the process or each other." Aubuchon added. 
 
The Rangers (RV) moves to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in the Great American Conference.
 
Kaydee Honeycutt led the Rangers with six kills, one block and seven digs. Honeycutt finished the contest with a .130 attack percentage off of a 6-3-23 hitting clip. 
 
Kate Deterding posted a 5-5-27 hitting clip. She tallied five digs, one service ace and five kills. 
 
Courtney Russell finished with three kills, one assist and one dig. 
 
Avery Osburg chipped in nine digs and 12 assists.
 
Sydnee Miller recorded six digs and one assist. 
 
Jessica Thompson added two kills, one block and one dig. 
 
Madison Dehlinger dug the ball once, blocked two Tigers and earned two kills. 
 
Austyn Pine, a freshman, tallied two blocks and one kill. 
 
Carmae Jones, who is still sitting second place in the nation for blocks per set, finished the contest with four blocks and one dig.

SET 1: (25-12, ECU)
Thalianette Garcia fired first for the Tigers, but Deterding answered back with the first kill of the evening for the Red-and-Black. The Tigers were able to snag an 11-1 scoring run after the teams were both tied at three. Deterding and Russell were the two Rangers that scored the two kills Northwestern tallied in the first set. Kellie Smith recorded the final point of the set to secure East Central's 25-12 win.
 
SET 2: (25-16, ECU)
East Central scored three straight points, followed by Northwestern immediately firing back three. Honeycutt, Pine, Dehlinger, Deterding and Thompson all earned kills in the second set, but the Tigers were able to outscore the Rangers and grab back-to-back set victories.

SET 3: (25-19, ECU)
Garcia, Kemyra Landry and Darcie Kaiser recorded the early points for ECU in the third set. Honeycutt drilled three straight kills for Northwestern, and Deterding earned the Rangers final kill of the night in the Kerr Activities Center. The Tigers defeated NWOSU 25-19 in the last set.

ECU improves to 2-3 overall and 2-3 in GAC play. 

Kaiser led the Tigers hitting .333 off of a 10-3-21 clip. She recorded two service aces, 12 digs and 10 kills.
 
Garcia also scored 10 kills and 12 digs. She earned one service ace and one block.
 
Landry accumulated two blocks, one service ace, seven kills, one dig and a .500 attack percentage. 
 
Sydney Dungen chipped in 21 assists and three digs.
 
Jordan Aloni tallied six kills and four blocks.
 
Smith finished with four blocks, five kills and one dig. 

UP NEXT
The Red-and-Black travel to Shawnee and take on the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist at 7 p.m. on March 9.
