Ranger Volleyball Falls Short in Five Set Thriller Against OBU

SHAWNEE, Okla. – The Northwestern Oklahoma State volleyball team fell to the No. 11 Bison of Oklahoma Baptist 2-3 after five sets (18-25, 25-18, 25-23, 14-25, 12-15).
 
"We went into the match knowing that it was going to be tough." Senior Setter from Longview, Texas Avery Osburg explained. 
 
"Even though the score says we lost, it was a big win as a team." 
 
"We had a couple of players that had their first real starts and they truly stepped up."
 
 "We took a huge step as a team and I'm super excited to see what's in store for the rest of the season." Osburg said. 
 
Northwestern Volleyball moves to 4-4 overall and 2-4 in the Great American Conference.
 
The Rangers are sitting number two in the nation for blocks per set. They average 2.88 blocks per set. 
 
Kaydee Honeycutt led Northwestern with 20 kills and posted a .326 hitting percentage. She finished with a 20-6-43 hitting clip and chipped in five digs along with four blocks and a service ace. 
 
Kate Deterding tallied 17 kills, 12 digs and two blocks. Deterding finished the match with a .143 hitting percentage off a 17-10-49 clip.  
 
Tarra Parks finished with 12 kills, 10 digs and a 12-9-34 hitting clip. 
 
Osburg assisted the team 52 times, earned two kills and recorded 13 digs. She also earned two blocks. 
 
Sydnee Miller recorded 19 digs and four assists.
 
Madison Dehlinger earned five kills and one block.
 
Ravyn Burns finished with four kills and a block. Burns is ninth in the nation for blocks per set, she averages 1.48.

SET 1: (25-18, OBU)
Northwestern opened the set with immediate kills from Dehlinger, Honeycutt, Parks and Deterding. The Bison were victorious in the first set after they defeated the Red-and-Black 25-18. Deterding snagged four kills, Deterding added three and Parks chipped in two. Osburg finished the set with eleven assists. The Bison held Northwestern to a 0.022 attacking percentage during set 1. 
 
SET 2: (25-18, NW) 
The Rangers finished the second set victorious after holding Oklahoma Baptist to a 9-7-39 clip and a .051 attack percentage. The Red-and-Black finished hitting 0.175 off of a 14-7-40 clip. Parks, Burns and Dehlinger all fired first Northwestern. Deterding led NWOSU in a victorious set with four kills and a block. 

SET 3: (25-23, NW)
The Rangers snagged back-to-back set victories after hitting 0.022 off of a 17-4-59 clip. Northwestern opened the set with three straight kills from Parks. The Rangers were led by Honeycutt's seven kills. Deterding chipped in five kills. The Bison were led by Malia Leatherland and Audrey Poupard's three kills.
 
SET 4: (25-14, NW)
Oklahoma Baptist bounced back 25-14 after losing two straight sets to Northwestern. OBU finished hitting 0.226 with a 11-4-31 clip, they held the Rangers to a 9-11-41 clip and a -0.049 attack percentage. The Red-and-Black were led by Deterding and Honeycutt's three kills apiece. 
 
SET 5: (15-12, SW) 
The Bison defeated the Northwestern Volleyball Team 3-2 inside the Noble Complex in Shawnee. OBU earned a fifth set 0.391 attack percentage off of a 10-1-23 clip while allowing NWOSU to post a 9-5-27 hitting clip. Honeycutt led the Northwestern in the final set with six kills. Burns, Deterding and Parks all chipped in a kill apiece but unfortunately Oklahoma Baptist was able to claim the Tuesday night victory.

Leatherland led the Bison with 12 kills, 11 digs and two service aces. She posted three blocks and a .214 attack percentage off of a 12-3-42 clip.
 
Taneyah Brown finished with 10 kills off of a 10-5-29 hitting clip. She racked up 12 blocks, seven digs and a service ace. 
 
Taryn Weber tallied nine kills and four digs. 
 
Kaylee Buell earned two kills and 46 assists. She also chipped in eight digs.
 
Julia Brinton recorded eight kills and 10 blocks. 
 
Poupard finished with seven kills, four blocks, an assist and two digs.
 
Diana Carranza led defensively with 13 digs, one service ace and three assists.

UP NEXT: The Red-and-Black will travel to Durant and face the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State on March 16 at 7 p.m.
