Northwestern Volleyball Earns Tuesday Night Sweep Against SOSU

DURANT, Okla. – The Rangers held off the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State in three straight sets (25-22, 25-23, 25-18) inside Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium. 
 
"This game is what we needed to move forward as a cohesive unit this season." Senior Libero Sydnee Miller explained.
 
"We are starting to understand each other on the court and it's showing in our offense and defense." 
 
"We have to give credit to team two, they have been pushing team one harder than ever before." Miller added.
 
Northwestern Volleyball improves to 5-4 overall and 3-4 in the Great American Conference. The Red-and-Black currently sits #6 in the nation for blocks per set.
 
Kaydee Honeycutt finished with 15 kills, one dig and one block. She posted a .412 attack percentage after defeating the Savage Storm with a 15-1-34 clip. 
 
Tarra Parks tallied a double-double of 10 kills and 15 digs. Parks finished with a 10-4-32 hitting clip and one block.
 
Madison Dehlinger snagged seven kills, one dig and one block.
 
Ravyn Burns blocked SOSU three times and finished with six kills and five digs. Burns has buried her name into the national individual standings, she currently sits #24 in blocks per set. 
 
Avery Osburg chipped in 40 assists, one ace, two blocks, one kill and seven digs.
 
Kate Deterding finished with 14 digs, six kills, one assist, one ace and one block.
 
Miller showed out defensively, earning herself 28 digs in the Tuesday night sweep. 
 
Maggie Peterson dug the ball five times and earned one assist along with one service ace.

SET 1: (25-22, NW)
NWOSU snagged the first three points of the set off of attack errors from Southeastern. Deterding, Honeycutt and Parks led offensively after all tallying four kills apiece. The Savage Storm gave up seven errors in the set which allowed the Rangers to jump ahead 1-0 after taking the first set 25-22. Two attacking errors from SOSU and two kills from Dehlinger and Parks scored the Red-and-Black's four-straight set ending points. Northwestern earned their best attack percentage of the night (.319) after recording a 16-1-47 clip.
 
SET 2: (25-23, NW)
The Savage Storm fired first in the set after scoring four-straight. Deterding, Dehlinger, Parks and Honeycutt immediately answered back for NWOSU scoring six straight points. Northwestern and Southeastern both gave up six errors apiece, but Northwestern was able to score more kills than the Savage Storm after posting 17 compared to SOSU's 13. The Rangers snagged back-to-back set victories by winning set two 25-23, Honeycutt and Parks led the Red-and-Black in scoring after they both earned five kills apiece. 
 
SET 3: (25-18, NW)
Northwestern Volleyball swept the Savage Storm after grabbing their third straight set victory 25-18. The Rangers posted a .243 attack percentage off of a 12-3-37 hitting clip. The Savage Storm finished the set with a 12-7-41 clip and a .122 attack percentage. Both teams traded points to open the set until SOSU was up 5-3 and the Rangers decided to score five straight, four off of Savage Storm errors. Honeycutt finished the final set with six kills, Burns and Dehlinger both added two and Parks chipped in one.

Ruthie Forson led SOSU with 10 kills, nine digs, 31 assists and two service aces. She finished with a 10-2-19 clip while hitting .421.
 
Caroline Griffith finished with nine kills, one dig and one assist.
 
Aleksandra Rodic tallied eight kills, 10 digs and two aces.
 
Skylor Lewis chipped in seven kills, 16 digs, one assist and one ace. 
 
Grace Shehadeh led defensively with 28 digs. 
 
Jessie Steele recorded one block, 17 kills and three digs.
 
UP NEXT
Northwestern will stay at home to host the Eagles of Oklahoma Christian University on Thursday, March 18 at 7 p.m.
