Rangers Travel to Durant for Final Road Regular Season Game

ALVA, OKLA-. The Northwestern basketball team is set to travel to Durant for their last scheduled regular season road game of the 2021 season. The Rangers will be coming off a 93-86 home loss to Southwestern on Monday night. Rangers come into the game 2-10 on the season and 0-10 in Great American Conference play while Southeastern coming off their loss enter with a 7-8 record on the season and in Conference play. 

On the defensive end this matchup creates two similar teams. Southeastern ranked eighth in the conference giving up 74 points a game, while the Rangers are seventh allowing 73 points per game. Rangers lead the conference in rebounds per game averaging 40 rebounds a night. The Ranger defense is the second best defense against the three holding opponents to 31% from three each game. The 4.7 blocked shots per game are seventh best in the nation per game. 

The Red-and-Black are led by head coach Vinay Patel currently finishing his second season with the program with a 12-28 record and 100-84 overall. 

Parrish Hewitt leads the Rangers offense in scoring per game at 13.9 points per outing. He is one of two double figure scorers as he is joined by senior Deon Barrett at 12.2 per game. Barrett is  coming off of a double double scoring 19 points and 11 assists in Monday's game. Barrett averages 5.7 assists per game for third best in the conference and tied for 14th in the nation. Bubba Furlong is third on the team in scoring at 9.3 points per game along with 9.5rebounds per game. The 9.5 rebounds continue to be a GAC best and 24th in the nation. He has been stellar on the defensive end as well averaging 2.42 blocks per game for second in the nation and a Great American Conference best this season. 

Southeastern Oklahoma State: 

The Savage Storm are coming off of a 66-64 loss on Monday to East Central University in Ada. Kellen Manek led the Savage Storm with 18 points. Southeastern is 3-2 in their last five games including a win over Northwestern 72-65 back on February 11th.  The 7-8 Great American Conference record has the Savage Storm fourth in the Western Division. 

Kelly Green is finishing his 10 season with the Savage Storm program this season, he holds a 143-132 record, and a 105-96 conference record in those 10 seasons. 

Southeastern is led by Adam Dworsky with 15.9 points per game which is seventh best in the Great American Conference. Along with the 15 points Dworsky leads the Great American Conference in assists per game with 6.9 per night. The assists are fourth best in the nation. He is joined by three other teammates averaging double digit scoring per night which include Kellen Manek at 14.9, Vadim Clanet 12.0 and Bobby Johnson at 11.7 points per game. Manek leads the team in rebounding with seven per game followed by Dworsky and Clanet at around five each. 

History: 

The Red-and-Black look for their first win of the season against Southeastern after dropping the first two matchups. Game one went in favor of Southeastern as the Rangers lost 76-64 in Durant following a 20 point night for Clanet. Game two also in favor of the Savage Storm 72-65 where Clanet once again led this time with 17 points. Hewitt led the Rangers with 20 that evening. 

Northwestern looks to snap their six game losing streak against the Savage Storm on Thursday in Durant. The last win came in February of 2018 in Durant, Oklahoma with a 77-74 victory. 

Overall in the series history between the two programs the Rangers lead the series 23-22. The Savage Storm lead 12-11 in games played in Durant
