Lady Rangers Fall Short After Late Start at Southeastern

DURANT, Okla. – Northwestern Women's Basketball fell short 63-68 against the Savage Storm of Southeastern, Thursday night in Durant. 
 
Northwestern moves to 6-12 overall and 4-12 in the Great American Conference.
 
Scout Frame recorded 23 points, three steals, nine rebounds and three assists to lead Northwestern for the night. She finished shooting 8-of-18 from the field and 6-for-6 from free throw range. 
 
Bailey Brown finished scoring 12 points and grabbing five rebounds. Brown shot 6-for-6 from the free-throw line and earned three assists as well as a block. 
 
Kiana Walker went 4-for-4 from the three-point line and scored 12 points. Walker tallied four rebounds, one assist and one steal. 
 
Lizzie Shephard recorded six points, grabbed three rebounds, stole the ball from Southeastern twice and assisted the team once. Shepherd went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. 
 
Josena Frame scored five points off of 2-for-2 shooting. She tallied a rebound and two assists.

FIRST QUARTER
Katie Branam of Southeastern scored the first basket of the contest after she rolled in a layup to put Southeastern on the board. S. Frame rattled in the first score for Northwestern after hitting a pull-up-jumper. J. Frame and Mya Johnson both scored off of layups, but Kamryn Cantwell and Aimee Alverson answered back with layups of their own. J. Frame hit the first deep score for the Lady Rangers with three minutes left in the first quarter. The Red-and-Black stayed ahead of the Savage Storm 15-14, to end the first 10 minutes of play after perfect free throws from S. Frame and Brown. (15-14, NW)
 
SECOND QUARTER
Walker fired in a three pointer that was assisted by Brown to open the second quarter. After five scoreless minutes for the Lady Rangers, Brown scored from inside followed by another pair of perfect free throws from S. Frame. Walker checked back into the game with a minute left in the first half and immediately drills another three pointer. Cantwell hit the last shot of the first half for the Savage Storm to keep Southeastern ahead of Northwestern 32-25, before heading into the locker room. (32-25, SE)

THIRD QUARTER
S. Frame rattled in a three pointer to open second half scoring for Northwestern. Cantwell answered back with a deep score for Southeastern, followed by another drained outside score from Walker.  Johnson, Brown and S. Frame scored the final points of the quarter, but the Savage Storm were able to stay ahead of Northwestern 48-39. (48-39, SE)
 
FOURTH QUARTER
Shephard drained a pull-up-jumper to open the fourth quarter followed by scores from Johnson and S. Frame. Walker splashed another deep score to cut Southeastern's lead to just three points. Shephard stole the ball from Briley Moon at the six-minute mark and tossed it to Brown who cut the lead to just one after she rolled in a layup. S. Frame hit back-to-back jumpers at the three-minute mark, and Shephard scored a pair of free throws. Brown and S. Frame added inside scores for the Red-and-Black, followed by another pair of frees from Shephard. Cantwell secured Southeastern's 68-63 senior night victory after hitting the final free throw of the matchup. (68-63, SE)

Southeastern moves to 10-7 overall and 10-7 in GAC play. 
 
Cantwell led the Savage Storm to victory after scoring 18 points, grabbing six rebounds, snagging a steal and assisting her teammates five times on the floor. She finished shooting 7-for-11 from the field and 2-for-3 from deep. 
 
Jordan Benson scored 15 points, stole the ball four times and grabbed five rebounds. Benson went 6-for-12 from the field and 2-for-5 from three-point range. 
 
Chandler Kemp posted 12 points, four assists and four rebounds off of 5-for-7 shooting and 2-for-4 FT shooting. 
 
Branam shot 4-for-9 from the field and 2-for-2 from free throw range. She scored 10 points, secured four rebounds, stole the ball and assisted the Savage Storm three times. 

NEXT UP: The Lady Rangers will take on the Tigers of East Central at home for their final game of the regular season, Saturday Feb. 27 at 2 p.m.
