Northwestern Falls to Southern Nazarene

ALVA, Okla. – The Lady Rangers were defeated 63-83 by the Crimson Storm of SNU on Saturday evening. 
 
The Red-and-Black ended the match up with two players in double-scoring figures. 
 
Scout Frame led Northwestern in scoring with 19 points from 9-of-15 shooting. S. Frame grabbed five rebounds, stole the ball once and assisted two Lady Rangers. 
 
Bailey Brown snagged nine rebounds and scored 12 points. Brown finished shooting 4-for-10 from the field and 4-for-6 from the free-throw line.
 
Jarah Whitfield scored seven points, secured three rebounds and stole the ball from the Crimson Storm once. 
 
Lizzie Shephard posted six points, one rebound and three assists. 
 
Hayley Stiger finished with four points, two steals, an assist and a rebound. 
 
Kes Reeves chipped in four assists, two rebounds and a block. 
 
Northwestern moves to 4-9 overall and 2-9 in GAC play.

FIRST QUARTER
Abby Niehues was the first player to put points on the scoreboard after she rolled in a layup for SNU that was assisted by Alexus Jones. Shephard answered first for the Lady Rangers with a jumper followed by an and-one from Brown after she was fouled by SNU's Emily Monaghan. Kiana Walker drained Northwestern's first three-pointer at the 4:30 mark to put NWOSU up by four. The Lady Rangers secured a four-point lead to finish out the first quarter after Josena Frame swished a three pointer from the top of the key. (19-15, NW) 
 
SECOND QUARTER
Crimson Storm's Georgia Adams fired in back-to-back three pointers to open the second quarter. Brown scored a layup that was assisted by S. Frame, but Adams drained another three pointer. S. Frame rattled in a three-point score at the six-minute mark and SNU fired again from deep. Cassandra Awatt extended the SNU lead by nine with three minutes left in the first half after she pulled up for three. Payton Jones closed out the first half by putting the Crimson Storm ahead of the Lady Rangers by 11 after she rattled in a deep three pointer. (40-29, SNU)
 
THIRD QUARTER
The Lady Rangers rattled in scores from Brown, S. Frame, Whitfield, Stiger and Maia Wright in the third quarter, but SNU was able to jump ahead by 22. Southern Nazarene secured a 17-point lead over Northwestern going into the final quarter. (63-46, SNU)
 
FOURTH QUARTER
Frame, Brown and Stiger were all able to score in the paint during the final 10 minutes of play. With three minutes left in the game, Zoe Cornett drained a three pointer and Whitfield put in three free-throws. Wright and Whitfield scored the final points for the Lady Rangers but unfortunately, SNU was able to defeat NWOSU 83-63.

Southern Nazarene defeated the Red-and-Black with five players recording double-scoring figures. 
 
Niehues led the Crimson Storm with 18 points, seven blocks, seven rebounds and two steals. She finished shooting 8-of-9 from the field and 2-of-3 from the free-throw line. 
 
A. Jones recorded 16 points, nine assists and two rebounds. 
 
Adams scored 15 points, grabbed six rebounds and stole the ball from Northwestern twice. 
 
P. Jones assisted three teammates, stole the ball from NWOSU twice and scored 14 points. She snagged three rebounds and shot 3-for-9 from deep. 
 
Awatt finished with 12 points, six rebounds and four assists. She completed 5-of-7 shooting from the field, including 1-of-2 from three-point range as well as 1-of-2 from the foul shot line. 
 
NEXT UP: On Monday, Feb. 11, the Lady Rangers will travel to Weatherford to take on the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State at 5:30 p.m.
