Rangers Drop Doubleheader to Southeastern

DURANT, Okla. – Northwestern dropped game one of Friday's doubleheader with a 5-2 loss to Southeastern and fell in the finale 8-0 in five innings at the Southeastern Softball Complex.

The losses dip the Rangers to 7-9 overall on the season and 2-8 in Great American Conference play.

Kalie Johnson and Alayna Georgio collected a pair of hits in game one, while Regan Burleson, Kelsey Bushey, Hannah Howell and Allison Zanca added one.

Burleson and Bushey each accounted for an RBI.

Howell got the start throwing 6.0 innings, taking the loss after allowing five runs on six hits with four strikeouts. She now has a record of 5-3 on the season.

The Red-and-Black would get on the board first, scoring in the top of the second after Zanca would lead off with a double to left-center then move up to third on a passed ball, before Burleson would drive her in with a single to right field, giving the Rangers a 1-0 lead.

SOSU would answer in the bottom half of the inning, knotting the score back at 1-1.

Southeastern would take the lead in the third inning with a solo homerun, and the score would remain 2-1 until the bottom of the sixth inning with the Savage Storm was able to add three insurance runs, holding a 5-1 lead after six innings.

In the top of the seventh, Johnson would get on with a two-out single and score on a pinch-hit double to left-center by Bushey, trimming the SE score to 5-2.

In game two, Brianna Wisby collected two hits, while Georgio, Lindsey McElroy and Zanca added a hit.

The Storm would strike early, getting three runs in the bottom of the first.

In the fourth inning, SE would add five more runs to make it 8-0.

Hannah Scoggin was tagged for eight runs on nine hits and 3.0 innings of work.

Allie Hufford would come into to throw the final 1.0 inning in relief, getting a fly out sandwiched between two ground outs.
