Southeastern VS Northwestern Series Preview

ALVA, Okla.- Northwestern Oklahoma State Baseball, is set to play host to the Savage Storm of Southeastern on Sunday and Monday for a three-game series to continue conference play. Northwestern will be coming off their series against East Central, where they lost the series one game to two, winning the last game, though 10-6.

The Red-and-Black led by head coach Ryan Bowen, who is in the middle of his fourth season with the Ranger program, posting a 62-69 record through those years.

The Rangers offense has got off to a fast start. The Red-and-Black is led by Preston Lonadier, with a team-leading .611 average, 1.640 OPS, and an on-base percentage of .696. The .611 average is the best in the conference and 14th in the nation. As the .696 OBP is conference-leading and ranked 18th nationally. Northwestern has three other hitters above the .400 mark and one above the .300. These players include Marques Paige (.419), Yugo Hamakawa (.417), Daschal Johnson (.400), and Jake White (.308). Paige leads the team in home runs with three on the season, tied for third in the conference. He is followed by Johnson, Hamakawa, White, Dylan Norsen, and Lonadier each has one home run on the year. Paige and Johnson are tied for the team lead with 11 RBI on the season tied for fifth in the conference.

The Red-and-Black pitching staff is led by Scott Creedon with the most wins on the team with a 2-0 record in as many starts. The two wins are tied for second in the conference for most wins. His 2.45 ERA has him eighth in the conference. The opposing hitters are hitting .182 off him for fourth-best in the conference. Austin Thomason leads the team in innings pitched with 13.2 with 13 strikeouts on the year for a team-best and the team's lone complete game. Blake Hoffman leads the Red-and-Black staff with 14 strikeouts on the season in 3 appearances. In relief, the Northwestern is led by Kaleb Honea with a 1.50 ERA and a conference-best two saves on the season with nine strikeouts in six innings of work. He is followed by Koby Spicer with a 2.25 ERA with seven strikeouts in four innings of work.

Southeastern:
The Savage Storm come into this series with a 6-4 record on the season with a 3-3 Great American Conference record. Southeastern will be coming off of a series sweep over Southern Nazarene in the conference and then an 11-10 midweek loss to Northeastern State.

Southeastern's head coach is Zach Crabtree, after taking over the baseball program in the summer of 2017. Crabtree has a 62-59 record through those years and the beginning of this year.

Southeastern is led by Seth Morrow hitting, .567 on the season as one of three hitters hitting over the .300 mark. He is joined by Colton Buckner at .378 and Dylan Herd .344 out of their qualified hitters meeting the requirements. The Savage Storm have two hitters that are tied with four home runs on the season in Buckner and Matt Miles. Seth Morrow leads the team in RBI with 16, followed by Buckner with 14 on the season.

The Southeastern pitching staff is led in wins by Mason Whitmarsh with a 2-1 record in three starts with a 4.15 ERA. Jacob Potter leads the visiting team in strikeouts with 19 in 19 innings of work. The 19 innings pitched are a team lead. He has a 2.84 ERA team-best out of starting pitchers. In relief, the Savage Storm is led by Kenneth Klier with 0.00 ERA through 2.1 innings of work and three strikeouts. He is followed by Jacob Bigham and KC Bryan with a 0.82ERA and a 2.70 ERA respectively, out of the bullpen. Tyler Dean is their third starter who is 1-0 with a 3.95ERA with 13 innings of work.

History:
The weekend series will be the first time these two teams will meet since 2019 when the season got cut short before these two teams were scheduled to play last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Rangers will look to change the narrative between these two teams.
 
The Rangers are 2-8 in the last ten meetings between the two teams as Southeastern has swept their previous two series against the Rangers. The Red-and-Black won the single-game matchup in Enid back on March 27, 2018.
