Softball Swept by ECU on Saturday

ALVA, Okla. – Northwestern opened its Saturday doubleheader with a 4-1 loss to East Central and was unable to bounce back in the nightcap, falling 14-3 in six innings in the series finale on Saturday afternoon at the Alva Recreation Complex.

The losses dip the Rangers to 7-5 overall on the season and 2-4 in Great American Conference play.

Hannah Howell collected a pair of hits in game one, while Mesa Gann, Kelsey Housley, Morgan La Neve and Lindsey McElroy each added one.

Howell accounted for the RBI.

Hannah Scoggin got the start throwing a complete game, taking the loss after allowing four unearned runs on six hits with two strikeouts. She now has a record of 1-2 on the season.

ECU would get on the board first, scoring in the top of the first after a two-out error would allow Charley Avery to score, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

East Central would add to their lead with a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead.

Howell put the Red-and-Black on the board with an infield single that allowed Kalie Johnson to come around and score, trimming the score to 4-1 after five innings.

In the finale, Regan Burleson, Kelsey Bushey, Howell, Johnson and McElroy collected a hit.

Johnson would start the bottom of the first with a double to left, Howell would advance her to third with a single to center, Johnson would score on a dropped pop-up by the catcher to give Northwestern a 1-0 lead after the first.

In the bottom of the fourth, Bushey and Burleson would take Taia Harris deep on back-to-back at-bats.

Allie Hufford would suffer her second loss of the season after tossing 3.0 innings and allowing four runs on four hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

Alexia Taylor was tagged for three runs on two hits and two walks in 1.0 innings of relief.

Victoria Vasquez would throw 1.0 innings in relief, surrendering five runs on five hits.

Kameron Ryer came on to pitch the final 1.0 of work, allowing two runs on three hits.
